Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

The kite is dead. Long live the Solar Airship, heir apparent to the kite's 30 centuries of dominance of the skies. The Solar Airship might look like an eight metre bin liner, but it's wise not to be fooled. To unleash its might, just fill it with common-or-garden air, and it will amply demonstrate the power of solar energy. This Airship is different from anything invented by the Montgolfier Brothers or Count von Zeppelin... and simply uses nature's most abundant gases and the power of the sun to inflate its sausage-like shape--no pumps or puff are required. All you need is a reasonably calm and sunny day. When exposed to the sun's radiation, the gases in the airship become excited, increasing in temperature and pressure... and lift the mighty tube majestically into the air. Now here's the really clever bit. A little like a worm cut in two by an inquisitive schoolboy, you can separate the eight metre length of the airship's black high-density film into two 4 metre sections... and get two mini flying machines for the price of one. Then it's up, up and away... though, to avoid interference with low-flying aircraft we heartily recommend that you keep this amazing contraption securely tethered.

5.0 out of 5 stars Solar sausage 23 Aug 2010

Do this in the park on a calm and sunny day and kids and adults alike will flock towards you. To see this 25 foot, black, 'solar sausage' up in the sky is surreal, weird and great fun. Take a roll of sticky tape with you to repair small holes and rips. When it is low down kids want to chase, grab and wack it which is when the rips will occur. Mine has been used several times with large groups of kids and probably has half a roll of tape holding it together but it still flies.

Not very durable but excellent fun. We should have chosen a bigger area to inflate it as it got torn on the television aerial!!!! You need lots of space but it is excellent and so easy.

Took this up to London (Blackheath) was great fun, even attracted the attention of a police helicopter haha.
Note you should only use in a big field with no obstacles or anything that can piece it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really good fun 13 Nov 2013

We took this to a huge field in a campsite. The warm air kept it floating. Everyone was coming by for a closer look. You do need a massive space away from trees though.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very poor quality 1 Aug 2013
Durability: 1.0 out of 5 stars    Educational: 3.0 out of 5 stars    Fun: 2.0 out of 5 stars
This airship does have a large amount of scientific value to it in terms of the principles of flight but is very flimsy. It tears very easily and as such needs constant repair. I was to able to use it once as the it developed several large holes.

1.0 out of 5 stars Broke within minutes - useless
Bought two of these for my kids. Both broke within minutes. Neither worked. Have thus far failed to get my money back from the supplier. Would not recommend them.
