This strap pad makes the most cheap and crappy messenger bag straps comfortable. Really nice. Only a couple of minor quibbles worth being aware of:
- This is a little longer than a typical strap. So as a pad that lies across your chest for a messenger bag it is GREAT. But for a strap that hangs on your shoulder it is a *little* awkward
- A lot of good quality straps now come with a cheap, terrible, fixed version of this. So finding a strap I could put this on wasn't all that easy. But found a good one at REI in the end.

Its okay but prefer the gripster strap 1 April 2012
By Michael SF - Published on Amazon.com

First let me start with saying I love my Timbuk2 bag. It is well built and lasting great! My only slight disappointment has been the straps and unfortunately this one follows that trend. I have tried the standard, gripster and now the deluxe. The standard and deluxe are both canvas/material based where the gripster is a rubbery type of product. It was hard to tell from the pics if the deluxe was grippy or material. Unfortunately its the latter and suffers the same problem I had with the regular pad, it just slides off my shoulder. The gripster was great but after about a year it went from grippy to hard and slick so I thought I would give the deluxe a try.

Pros:
Wide
Adequate padding
Reflective
Well made

Cons:
Underside of the strap (the part on your shoulder) is material, not rubbery so it slides right off

This strap would be perfect if your the type of person that wears the bag across your body. But if you carry it to one side (like myself) I have found the gripster version much better. This one will slide right off your shoulder as where the gripster holds it in place.

A HUGE Improvement over the one the included shoulder pad! 26 Jan. 2013

The only con to this product is that Timbuk2 forces you to spend additional cash to replace the worthless shoulder pad they ship their bags with. The difference in comfort between this and the included one is night and day. especially if you carry heavy things like a laptop, books and the occasional bottle of wine.

A much needed improvement 12 Sept. 2013

I bought my first messenger bag several weeks ago for my first year in college. Since then, I have been carrying notebooks, textbooks, and my laptop inside the Timbuk2 bag. I thought the initial shoulder pain was normal, so I decided not to worry about it. Little did I know, this shoulder strap is a necessity if heavy items (such as textbooks or laptops) are going to be carried often. This shoulder strap is big help. If you are going to spend the money on a Timbuk2 bag, then I would splurge and get this strap. It will help in the long run, and can be used on other messenger bags as well. Almost no shoulder soreness!

Super comfortable sling pad! Perfect for biking! 1 Feb. 2014
By P.K. Frary - Published on Amazon.com
I own Timbuk2 bike messenger bags and, while great bags for riders, their standard (included) strap pads miss the mark: stiff, uncomfortable and slippery. So I removed them and rode sans pad. Riding with a heavy load is tough on the shoulder and hence my purchase of the Timbuk2 Deluxe Strap Pad. What a nice surprise: attractive, flexible so it molds to body shape and well padded. The unique padding has two distinct layers: a soft layer in direct contact with the shoulder and a firm (closed cell foam) above for support. The top of the pad has attachment loops for hanging accessories, e.g., Shagg Bag , blinking light or sunglasses. Timbuk2 designers gave this pad serious thought and got it right. Like others have said, all Timbuk2 messengers should ship with this pad.

The Deluxe Strap Pad, like Timbuk2 Messenger Bags, is optimized to be worn sling style across the chest: the extra wide 16-inch long pad wraps around the shoulder and hugs the chest contour, distributing the weight across a large area. It's the most comfortable pad I've used. However, the pad shape is too long for hanging off a single shoulder and tends to bite into the shoulder rather than wrapping around it. Shoulder hang users need a shorter and more grippy pad, e.g., a neoprene or rubber backed design like a Billingham SP20 Shoulder Pad (Black).

There is one little gotcha, at least for my taste: a strip of reflective tape/fabric in the center of the pad. Luckily most of it is covered with black attachment loops. The tape is a safety feature for bikers but I prefer a strap that blends rather than draws attention. Unfortunately, the reflective tape/fabric can't be removed without also removing the accessory attachment loops. Maybe I'll paint it black when I'm feeling daring.

I'm stroked with this pad. A lot of thought went into optimizing this design for bikers, runners or hikers wearing a bag sling style. For only $15 it's a good deal and I bought another Deluxe Strap Pad for my Timbuk2 Snoop Camera bag. I'm be riding and shooting in style and comfort!

Works Well 13 April 2011

It does move around a bit on the strap--which isnt neccesarily bad since you can easily adjust the bag, it does grip on the shoulder, so maybe for some people it will be just the right amount of resistance. But for me and my timbuk2 stuffle its a little annoying.

It does reflect brightly... in case someone is shining a light at my shoulder...

It does have plenty of padding, I'm not sure who could think it doesnt.

It has attachment points for whatever else you may want to put on there, like the dime bag or bottle opener.

Its a little annoying some timuk2 bags on amazon dont include a strap pad, but i guess thats not this items fault.

Seems a little expensive for what it is, but its certainly built well and tough.
