Long ago, the warriors of Light defeated Darkness, but in time, the story became just an old legend. For many years, the world was at peace, but eventually, disaster slowly drew near. Thick, mysterious clouds formed overhead, blocking out the sun, but not releasing a drop of rain. The people were tormented by drought for years. Then, monsters began to appear, and people's hearts filled with despair. King Marcel, the ruler of Klantol, feared for his people's welfare. And so, he announced a grand tournament at the coliseum to find a mighty hero that could protect the country and vanquish the wandering monsters. "...Heroes who have inherited the power of Light, save this world from being engulfed in Darkness!"
There are many weapons to buy and find. There are also lots of different items, with lots of different effects and uses. The graphics and sounds are both very good quality, the animation is in a cartoony style. So if you like RPG games or fighting/adventure games or both I recomend this game.
Unfortunately for you, oh blissfully oblivious purchaser, SS2 combines this with being just scrumdiddlyumptiously excellent enough to make sure you do keep playing long enough to want to hang yourself eventually. What it may lack in storyline as compared to the Zeldas of this world - the game is essentially trecking through a series of dungeons, with the emphasis firmly on hack n' slash rather than puzzle-solving - it more than makes up for in complexity and depth. Whilst playing more like a Zelda game, it is at heart closer to the turn-based combat of Final Fantasy et al; countless skills to be raised to decide the developing and changing individual strengths and weaknesses of your character, weapons to be built and modified and specialised in according to your taste, EXP to be earned, combat decided by chance - or rather your character's stats - as much as skill.
Whilst I certainly don't seem to be in the majority with this opinion, i'd take the Shining series over Zelda.
