Set a few years after the first game but curiously failing to feature Parker, the hero from the original, Red Faction II casts you as Alias, a nanotech-enhanced soldier out to bring down the Soviet-style Commonwealth that has decided to blight the land in the way that evil dictatorships always seem to in video games.
The primary gimmick of the Red Faction games is the Geo-Mod (geometry modification) graphics engine that allows you to destroy almost any wall, ceiling and floor in order to proceed or simply to have a bit of a laugh. The biggest problem with the first game was its terrible loading times that really interrupted the flow of the game, but that's been sorted out for this sequel which also includes improvements to the previously Spartan multi-player modes.
As you'd expect there are also lots of new vehicles to drive--including a very natty robotic power suit--plus tons more weapons and even a new Halo-style shield system. Admittedly none of this is terribly original, and the frame rate can stutter on occasion, but it's still lots of fun for red-blooded men and women. --David Jenkins
It's slightly cartoony in its realism, while still preserving excellent graphics.
You get more amazing weapons than I even care to TRY and remember, but I can't think of any games where you get more guns on the Xbox - and to top it off, once you get a gun in this game, you never lose it! You just keep building your collection up:
Railguns, Rocket Launchers, Shotguns, Machine Guns, Sniper Rifles, Grenade Launchers, Pistols, Assault Rifles - the list goes on. And they are plural for a reason - there is more than one gun of each type!
You can blow up almost ANYTHING in the game - you can blow holes through practically every wall and floor, unless progress through a wall would hinder a missions progress, the wall is breakable.
Story Line is excellent - fun with good characters each with unique personalities, and a good story twist half way through the game.
Multiplayer is just so good, I can't even begin to reel of its good points.
If there were a sixth star, this game would get it.
The AI in the game is amazing and it is a very challenging game. The game is short in length but if you liked Red Faction for Playstation 2, then get this. The missions vary and are very well produced.
The pitfall of this game is there is no XBOX Live, which I think should have been added to make the replayability of the game longer.
Overall still an excellent game and don't let the short length put you off.
I strongly Reccommend, GO BUY NOW!!
