Fun:
Firstly I think its silly that this game has a rating of 12 when the target audience for the film was young children and their families!
My daughter (9 years old) went to see this film for her birthday and it was fabulous! So obviously she wanted the game!
At first the game looked very promising with beautiful cartoon cutscenes which portray the storyline very well and has the actual actors from the film doing the voice overs which is rare. After the first cutscene you are straight in to play without any tutorial or help on what the controls are so you have to pause the game to read the manual which doesn't offer very clear instructions (especially for people who are younger) you are thrown in to the first fight in which you basically wave your wii remote around like a maniac and press Z whenever a boot appears at the side - sadly especially for my little girl who is full of energy she and waves it around madly you get tired very quickly.
Then in the middle of the fight you randomly get parts that say BLOCK with no guide with what to do (and no help in the instructions booklet) so she just tries different things everytime with a possiblity of blocking or not.
There a parts when there is stuff happening on the screen and then you have to press certain buttons on the wii remote this is difficult as my daughter found because sometimes when it said C on the screen she got confused with which button to press.
There are also parts of the game where you are running and there are obstacles in the way so you have to jump or climb or balance on the rope I think these were the best parts of the game!
Throughout the game there were many times when my daughter had to ask for help like blocking etc. which we both found annoying as she felt disheartened that she couldn't do it herself and then I had to sit there waving a wii remote around. If you have bought this for younger children then you might have to do this a lot.
There are also parts that my daughter found very fun like the sneaking when you had to walk without being spotted and the part when you ride on the beanstalk .etc but these were little compared to the whole game! There were tedious parts of the game when it asked you to GRAB items using the joystick on the nunchuck. These parts were very annoying and can take a long time due to the bad controls for example when we had the joystick right at the top it wouldn't grab so we waggled it left and right and it still wouldn't grab so fustrating minutes go by trying to move the joystick to grab items and becomes near impossible.
The game also becomes repeatative very quickly. So it becomes boring with little or no variety in the different stages of the game - there were many times when I could hear my daughter saying "not again..." But one positive was that she got better at doing it herself so I didn't have to help as often.
Considering this game is of a film the graphics are surprisingly decent (however not fantastic) compared to other games of films I have played.

Maybe I was expecting too much of this game as I thought the film was amazing but I have to say there were fustrating moments when a game should be enjoyable and it did get repeatative and slightly boring. However my daughter did have moments with a smile on her face enjoying it very much. I wouldn't recommend it for children under 9 unless you want to be doing much of the game yourself and not being able to leave your child to play on their own.

Shame!

(I recommend the film though)

Disapointing 25 Mar 2012

Fun:
Bought this hoping for a few hours fun without having to put my brain in gear; enjoyed the film although I am all grown up now. Found it very disapointing. You move through the game where it wants you to go; you have no chance to have a look around at all the other things you wizz past. You only have to push a button to jump; the game sets it up for you and there is no chance of failure. Fine if you are a youngster, but I am sure a lot of kids of 10/12 would find this irritating. Agree with other reviews, the fighting just consists of waving the remote about with the odd push of a button when the 'boot meter' is full. You can collect pieces of the golden egg by turning puss around before he 'boots' his opponent away (if you aim right they crash into things that sparkle thus earning the pieces of the egg). What you do with them and where they are stored in the game is anyones guess! Grabbing is a nightmare! You have a symbol on the screen showing you that you need to move the button on the nunchuck but you push and push in the direction it tells you with little gain. You can also collect coins as you move through the game(why)? If you are not carefull when you are fighting the bad guys (who queue up to fight you one at a time) you may get caught by a big bloke who likes to pet cats. If he gets you and rubs your head you loose money. You have to fend him off somehow, but even though I finished the game I am still not sure how I avoided him after the first time.
Coming down the beanstalk after finding the goose is a little more exciting, you get the chance to jump from stalk to stalk as you slide down, or jump up to collect more coins. Again you can't really fall off the game wont let you, but it does get a bit repetative.
Good grahpics and sound.
If you want to buy this game for a younger child look out for a second hand copy; not worth paying full price for this.

I bought this game for my sons 12th birthday. It says on the box it is rated as a 12! Although he was delighted with the game and enjoyed playong it, it is clearly aimed at a much younger audience. After only 2 hours of playing time he had completed the whole game! What a waste of money. There are far better games out there to buy than this one! Very disappointing. If your child is younger then they may be fine with it. The gfraphics are good and it is an enjoyable/ entertaining game - its just not suitable for the age range it states on the box.
