One of the best games i've bought for the xbox. I was getting tired of over hyped FPS games like halo 2 and thought i'd give this a try. My girlfriend is a big platform game fan whilst i prefer hl2 or gta sa, we both enjoyed this.

The game is genuinely funny, enjoyable to play and the graphics are superb. I felt compelled to write my first ever amazon review (albeit very short) to do something to prevent this game from dropping under other gamer's radar to be left unplayed with other seldom discovered gems such as beyond good and evil and stranger's wrath. Quality gameslike this should not be played by less people then purchase soulless creations such as fifa street.

Buy this game and after doing so let others know how much you enjoyed it. If games like this don't sell the next generation will be swamped with thousands of poor FPS and devoid of all humour and genuine creativity.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quirky, Challenging, Weird, Funny 20 Feb 2006
Speaking as a woman it is not often I find a game that I actually like! Most involve constant killing (be it fantasy or military) or sports (take your pick). I love puzzles, so apart from a handful of games (Ocarina of Time, Wind Waker, Sphinx (Cursed Mummy) ...) there was never much that appealed to me. I don't mind a little action if it is balanced by good stories, puzzles and other challenges. Killing on its own - nah! Psychonauts turns out to be just such a game. Great story, weird, likeable graphics, music, characters, monsters, minds (dungeons to games aficionados). Some very challenging puzzles and some fun skills for those times when you need to outwit and/or slaughter baddies!
The game is essentially based on the theme of the psyche and psychics, but not quite in the way you might expect. The main character Raz, sneaks into a summer camp and is due to be “expelled” as he is not there legitimately. So he sets about trying to train as a fully qualified Psychonaut in the short time he has before Papa comes to drag him away. This means learning to use his mind in a variety of different ways, which all takes training and challenges to perfect. But as he learns he has to unravel the minds/moods/secrets of different people he encounters by literally going into their minds and dealing with whatever is there.
Given the wealth of games on the market it is an achievement to come up with something original and this is original. If you like Tim Burton then the graphics will suit you as will the humour, the weirdness and the occasional dark under/overtones. If you like games with more than fighting in them then I would strongly recommend this game.
Oh, and my teenage son who is a first person shooter fanatic (Battlefield 2 and Counterstrike take up many of his waking hours) thought this a great game too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Psychobabble 16 Feb 2006
By A Customer
Apparently this game didn't sell well in the states last year. That's CRIMINAL quite frankly. This game is one of the most original, whacked out, mentalist, charming, witty and downright 'purtee' games to grace a console.
I'm not a platform fan at heart. But this game's got characters and situations that are so consistently laugh out loud funny you'll not only want to clock it but you'll NEED to hunt down all those beautifully drawn figments. Personality (and great art direction) - as they say goes a loooong way.
In a world of tech driven dross and bland bland sequels it's a pleasure to discover a quirky, original gem that oozes a warped and wonderful imagination.
What are ya waiting for buy the thing ALREADY?!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best game I have played in a long time 26 Feb 2006
Humerous, artistic, wildly inventive, hugely enjoyable, and possibly kleptomaniacal. Whatever genre of games you ususally enjoy, buy this. You won't regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Save the industry and buy this game! 22 Sep 2006
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
Along with watching Withnail and I, Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas and listening to Never Mind by Nirvana and Definatley Maybe by Oasis, psychonauts is one of those rare artisitic creations that simply MUST be experienced by those aged 20 - 35. It really IS that good.

I've never written a review on here as I've never felt compelled to, but as someone that has played games pretty casually for about 15 years I cannot believe that this has slipped under the radar so easily. Its the first game I've ever played that is actually quotable.

As psych-cadet Raz, its your job to pass training camp and gain PSI powers such as levitation, marksmanship, telekinisis and the like. When you pass the childrens training camp and enter the main adventure however, the game really comes into its own. You are given a tiny door which can be thrown onto the heads of the other characters in the game. Once the door is attached you are transported into said characters mind with often bizarre and hilarious results.

I wouldn't say the game was absolutley massive, but it offers up a decent challenge, and its much longer than the four hours the previous reviewer mentioned. There is also plenty of reason to go back and collect the remaining items in the game as they unlock extra video material and cut scenes, (Its not like trying to collect all the rings in Mario - you actually WILL want to do this.)and you'll also just want to go back to relieve some of the classic moments from the game.

All in all this is fantastic and has a contender for the greatest character ever in a videogame in Boyd the security guard (AKA 'The Milkman' - Buy it and you'll know what I mean), just go and buy it know and you'll realise why I'm so damn enthusiastic about it!
