3.0 out of 5 stars Hack 'em, Slash 'em...then do it again. 1 Oct 2007
Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
In a world full of halo's and Grand Theft Auto's it's a strange thing to see an old school hack and slasher like Conan rear it's gnarled old head. Being a fan of classic chop 'em ups, like Golden Axe and Splatterhouse, I have a place in my heart for such titles, as I'm sure a good few of you who where around at the time have, but like I said; with the vast array of quality, varied gaming experiences out there it is a wonder to see something that's about 15 years out of it's comfort zone still floating to the surface.
Wherever you read a review of this game you are going to see comparisons to God of War and that is not without justification because A.) god of war and the brilliant GoW2 took this genre to a whole new level on a console that doesn't carry half as much heft as it's next gen brothers, and B.) Conan tries to imitate it, but in a much more watered down fashion and not with nearly enough polish to help it snatch the crown from Kratos' shiny noggin.
So this isn't sounding very positive is it, but there are some redeeming features which I attempt shall list below:
- the animation for the hugely (and I emphasize the word 'hugely') gruesome and violent moves is top notch, cue tons of slow-mo blood spurting, intestine flinging madness and bodies blitzed in twain (both ways). This makes the moves enormously satisfying to pull off - although the over the top violence will only sate the 12 year old inside of us for a little while and soon it just becomes part and parcel.
- The combat system is solid enough and moves can be pulled of with ease and precision.
- The achievements are pretty cool and quite fun to unlock (dismember 100 enemies etc.

4.0 out of 5 stars Robert E. Howard would be happy 9 Oct 2007
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
OK, God of War will never be developed for the 360. Deal with it. I have finished GOW 1&2 on my PS2 before selling it and upgrading to 360, and they are awesome- but they are gone. Conan is not as pretty, but it lacks NOTHING in gameplay in comparison to Kratos' adventures, in fact, the fighting system is better balanced and more involving, with the ability to buy, and then master new combos, and use many different weapons in different combinations. Go into a fight with a battle axe and short sword and watch the limbs fly in glorious bullet time- superb! The puzzles are straight forward, but then, Kratos wasnt exactly Einstein either. The cut scenes work well, and it sounds like Ron Perlman did the voice of Conan. The story arc really feels like a Howard story, and I get the impression that the developers are fans of the written Conan, and that shines through. If you love Conan stories, if you remember Golden Axe fondly, if you thought God of War Kicked ass but have moved on from PS2, if you just like a really good fun game period. then you will not be let down by this Cimmerian.

4.0 out of 5 stars Conan - A Pleasant Suprise 18 Jan 2008
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I love all things Conan which is why I bought this game. I suspected it was going to be a turkey but I was pleasantly suprised. Don't get me wrong, this game isn't going to win any awards for innovation. It's a pretty simple affair, the gameplay mostly consisting of hacking your way through hordes of mooks, but it's just done so well. The combat system works very well and it's extremely satisfying when you manage to pull off one of the spectacularly gory finishing moves. The graphics are good (although nothing amazing) and the sound is evocative (but can get a bit repetetive).

In short, this game feels very much like an "old school" hack and slash game and probably shouldn't be as fun as it is, but there's something about it I just love.

Great and really fun game. Plenty of blood, guts, and slow-mo death sequence. Loads of moves to learn, with one or two weapons. Nice graphics. You will enjoy learning to dis-member you foes in various ways, and its hard not smile as you do it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Krom! 19 Feb 2011
Fun: 3.0 out of 5 stars
Conan is rather a little jem and way over-looked and that's a shame.
Much better than similar games also available on 360 such as 'Viking' and 'Golden Axe: Beast Rider'.
There is something about this game that feels right and is very enjoyable as other reviewers have mentioned.
The graphics are more than good enough and there is enough story and character upgrades to keep you playing.
Conan is a typical hack 'n slash game, lots of violence and blood..also some hidden naked maidens that require freeing from their shackles.
There are a few little niggles which sadly mark the game down and that's the occassional dumb platform sections and a few tedious boss battles and the general tedium of the action, but that's what a hack and slasher does and Conan is very respectable. On the whole it is a good game that can be found for next to no money.
Deffinatley recommend to old school gamers who like this type of game.

Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
This game is excellent fun and is an arcade style hack n slash.
The graphics are a bit rough in some of the cut scenes and its by no means as polished as some of the major titles on Xbox 360, but in game graphics are OK.
I think it would have been brilliant if it had a 2 player co op mode.

Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
I love this game, I am only reviewing now on picking it up again from the bargain bin and I am enjoying it as much now if not more than I did first time around.
The graphics are solid enough if not ground breaking in anyway, I like the design, it feels pretty faithful to the source material.

Loosely based on the Robert E Howard novels. It is good fun but gets really hard after a while. I have played the ps3 version and it is terrible.
