Format: Audio CD
Back in time when the financial taps dripped in drizzling fits and spurts the bubbling youth, the progency of an era whistfully played upon a Thames sand covered beach. Locked into a world where time seemingly stood still, decay rippled through rooves and etched itself in broken windows, as the whistling winds whizzed through empty rooms, the progeny of battered houses. Any idea life could be transcended was left to whistle with damp and rot. What no one realises was the river was forever rising.

Within the previous good times, the world twisted, ducked and dived to new sounds. Reactions composed of hormonal responses arose as the chains of yesteryear were slipped for brief moments within a resounding reverie before the drudgery of the mortgage fitted like a pair of slippers to the sounds of duty and consumerism. Each was laid out in a never ending vista of a life mathematically lived. Everything coded, dripping along with a sense of broadcast ennui rebounding into tears when any thought of the general reflection arose.

A gradual upheavel spread, derived from when the aspirations were widened, to being handed a never ending link to credit. Handed the carrot, along came the cosh - as any dissent was broken on the wheel. The New World marked the reaction against the 1960's, rebelllion was wrapped up by the "straights" who wanted to bring back the grind, founded upon their hallucination of economics. This was the "Unacceptable Face of Freedom," the end of an era, brief moments of human clarity, 1980's marked the reaction, trumped up by the Falklands Effect.

Signposting the contents is the Malcolm Poynter cover, where the plastic soldiers churned out in the 1960's march to the death of the previous generations in their thousands, swinging to the concept of duty.

This album is among Test Dept's most cohesive albums 8 Sept. 1999

The Unacceptable Face of Freedom is an unrelenting and exhaustive album, with very dirty textures augmented by forceful rhythms. It is rife with political cynicism and disillusionment, as well as artistic expression and innovation. I've always felt that Test Department was among the more intelligent and focused industrial bands, expressing more than maudlin misery, and targeting specific issues in their presentation of their vision of the Reagan-Bush/Thatcher era.

Truly a monumental album!! 28 Jan. 2003

This is one of the most astounding and groundbreaking albums ever released. Really the zenith of true industrial music. If I had to choose one album to represent Industrial this would be it hands down. A must have. Intelligent, challenging and primal music for modern homo sapians. Captures the true meaning of the term "Decline of Western Civilization". A must have. I would put this one on the greatest recordings ever.

ONE of two great releases in the catalouge of TEST DEPT, worlds largest band. This one uses orchestras with bagpipes and mixes chaotic soundbites into swirling overdubbed industrial beat LOUD music. This is their finest hour with LP ONE NIGHT OUT being their other classic. They are completely unique altho some outfits that came by later on tried to pull off the complicated sound of this CD. It's not for everybody but if u like early psychic TV, Tuxedomoon, Chrome and EISTERZENDE NEUBATAN the UNACCEPTABLE FACE of FREEDOM is parked right up YOUR ALLEY. Definatley worth what they are asking for it here on Amazon! GET IT!

Excellent.... get it asap 29 Dec. 1999
By John Hall - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
I have been looking for this album since 1988, I have just finished listening to it and it is as great now as it was then. If you like 80's industrial like Skinny Puppy but more intense. Hard hitting gloom and doom with political undertones (check out track 5). A must for anyone who likes industrial.... John Hall
