I'm gobsmacked that no one has spoken up for Julian Richer already! His book is so direct and easy to follow, what he says makes such good sense and the proof is his friendly little shops where the staff actually help you to find hi fi that you want to buy. It's just the complete opposite of the big names (I don't have to name them) where you are terrified to go in and be ignored or made a fool of. The same difference is apparent in the book. The author is not a high-flown theoretical guru but a good businessman who has made the effort to communicate in a genuinely helpful and straightforward way how he's got to the top. I've had this book 18 months and it's well-thumbed. It's taught me a lot about sales and marketing, and amazingly, that it can be fun and interesting.

Julian Richer focuses on a people oriented approach, where by staff and customers are truly treated as the most important asset of his company. His ideas and attitudes are strongly centred around friendliness which he evidently believes is a winning attitude. As a budding entrepreneur I can safely say that my attitude towards business has been positively shaped around much of the ideas in this book. A must read!

The techniques that Mr Richer employs in his stores get results. I first read this book 10 years ago. I have also been a long term customer of Richer Sounds - and whether I have gone to buy a 5 metre speaker cable or an expensive piece hi-fi equipment I have always found the customer service second to none. It is a pleasure to shop there!

This book describes the methods and strategies Mr Richer uses to motivate his staff and ensure that the customer service remains top notch. There is also a history of the business.

Not as well known as Mr Branson, but equally astute.
