4.0 out of 5 stars A great book that I couldn't put down 16 Oct 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Take a small town surrounded by rocky mountain scenery with the usual mix of inhabitants old and new rich and poor, what do you think about it? I think that it would be a wonderful place for us to retire to, away from the rat race and lots of fresh air and walking in glorious scenery. Now try to write a story about some local people such as police officers, hospital staff, book sellers and a dog walker. Oh so dull; but wait, bodies of murder victims start to arrive on the scene, not ordinary bodies but those of unknown persons with the vital organs removed. Ditch the thoughts of retiring to Aspen and read what Peg Brantley has to say in her book "The Missings" about life in the town.

The story has everything, intrigue, love, police investigation, hospital scenes, family scenes, fear, suspense and terror etc. The plot is lively moving quickly through the events as they build up to a heart rendering climax. Peg Brantley is clever and gives the reader enough information to always be ahead of the police, we could write the next paragraph ourselves it seems but we wait to see if that is what really happens. It is almost like an old fashioned pantomime where the children in the audience shout to the goody that the baddy is behind you. I particularly like the detail that comes through of police procedures, medical procedures and technical data about drugs. This indicates that a lot of research lies behind the story.

Unlike many e-books "The Missings" is well laid out and published. When reading books it is easy to only think about the authors and their stories forgetting that a whole team is involved. The story is important, but the research into activities such as police and hospitals etc.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thrilling read 16 Feb 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
When hispanic bodies are turning up mutilated and dumped, the detectives of Aspen Falls are in for a shocking discovery. This is a fast-paced, thrilling read that deals with something we'd probably rather not know about. The character's lives are intertwined to make the plot more compelling and full of suspense. I couldn't put it down once I started reading!

Smashing read! The people could almost be real, they are sooo well described! I like the flow of the story and I found myself wanting to stop the eldest daughter of the Detective and give her a good shake! Luckily, she got a good shake anyway!! lol

5.0 out of 5 stars Nothing Missing From This 9 Jun 2013
By maffism
The Missings is a very quickly paced mystery-suspense-thriller with complex and well rounded characters. A spate of killings leads to the first question -is it a cult or ?!?!?!? The second question is - just how realistic is it. All too realistic, I'm afraid. Highly recommended.
