Odd one this. I've read a few ERB books and almost the first half of this is a series of wartime encounters involving a U boat! The bit I was looking forward to came later, and seemed a bit rushed and little simplified. Hordes of dinosaurs but the author gets fed up with going into detail about them. The landscape is good though the scale of it is hard to believe if it is a lost world, and the stratification of the cavemen is fascinating though doesn't get explained in this book. I will read the two follow ups eagerly though, at least to try and solve the mysteries left by this one.

Sadly dated and definitely not PC, but a good yarn. I prefer his science fiction though, but my memory may cast a rosy glow of youthful wonder even over those.

This book is the basis for so many films, and spinoffs, that the story is well known to the reader before the first page is read. This story gives much more detail about the travelling to the destination than interpretations have, and that's a pity, because the actual story, the real adventure, doesn't start until the 'intrepid explorers' were on the plataue where evolution had passed by and hence the title 'The Land that Time Forgot'.
A very good read, for all the meandering of the plot.
