I had my doubts about this book from the very first page. I got through to the end of the trial and skipped ahead to a graphic murder scene and decided to give up. The prose is painfully amateurish, the main character unsympathetic (problematic when he goes through so much crap that should elicit at least a LITTLE sympathetic feeling) and the story itself didn't grip me at all.

And you have to pay to read the end? I recommend giving this a pass.

I was really frustrated by this book.

Throughout there are typos, spelling mistakes and errors. For example the lead character is, we are told, a former Royal Marine (part of the Navy) but is subsequently referred to as a soldier; we're told that he is a former bomb disposal expert, a trade not open to Royal Marines. There are numerous others littering the manuscript throughout. The chapter pagination is all over the place, so too some of the paragraph indents. These do terribly detract from the overall reading pleasure.

And this is a shame because the basic plot is imaginative and, as others have noted on here, quite readable. As a holiday novel it helped pass a hot day on the sun lounger but I was left quite exasperated that the book ended without any conclusion and one had to purchase Part 2 to read on I won't!). This is incredibly frustrating, not least as there was an awful lot of prose that could have been cut earlier to contain the plot within one volume, not two, and as such marks this book down significantly.

No doubt the author reads these reviews: I hope so! Therefore I constructively suggest that: 1) You have a writing talent that will be enhanced by procurement of a proper editor (and that means getting a proper publisher, 2) greater attention to factual detail, 3) CONTAIN YOUR WORK IN ONE BOOK! Aggghhh.

Cannot really recommend as was so exasperated at reading this.

The plot was quite original but the spelling and layout of the book was dire.
I hadn't realised quite how graphic some of the descriptions of the murders would be but this was far outweighed by my irritation caused by the dreadful spelling mistakes, sometimes at least two on a page or even in a paragraph. I am surprised this hasn't been picked up in more reviews. Quite frankly I downloaded it because it was free but if I had realised it was only a part one and that I would have to pay for the second part I probably wouldn't have bothered. Even a free book surely shouldn't have this amount of errors. Isn't that what a spell-checker is for?
An original plot unnecessarily spoiled.

Very silly but also very enjoyable! Okay, so the whole plot is fantastical but then so are those of Ian Fleming and Dan Brown. This is well worth readung for pure escapism. Read more
