5.0 out of 5 stars Ultimate Bird Book 11 May 2011
Format:Hardcover
I've been trying to steel my mum's copy of this book for years and was so pleased to find it second hand on Amazon. I can't stress enough to buy the hardback version with the owl on the cover, published 1980; the illustrations are large, accurate and beautiful, and provide a great resource for artists in addition to those interested in bird watching. Aside from the comprehensive identification section of the book, there is information on migration, biology, bird watching, eggs and development, domestic birds, and much more. Even 30 years after it was published, in my opinion this is still the ultimate bird book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A treasure of bird art 9 Oct 2012
Format:Hardcover
This is a book that has captivated me since childhood. Inside it there's an acknowledgement that the tawny owl on the cover was painted by Raymond Harris Ching. There's no need for any such printed comment as the quality of the artwork is self explanatory. No other bird artist before or since has rivalled Ray Ching. He has about 200 gorgeous paintings (the word "illustrations" simply doesn't do them justice)in this tome and that, in fact, is the only reason anyone would buy this wonderful book.
