I love the clever way in which Phil Dourado has put this book together. Many management 'short' books fall into the easy trap of being 'dumbed down'. Phil's book is BOTH concise AND intelligent, inspiring, inductive and so on. In other words, he has 'dumbed up' the artform - not an easy thing to do. He does this using an 'all round learning' approach which brings the gurus into intimate contact with practical advice, exemplars of great leaders and pithy bits of wisdom, gathered from an extremly wide research base.

He even dares to start a book on leadership with a chapter on failure, something I know plenty about, having attempted to fly aging punk rocker John Otway round the world on a tour that would rival the cult movie 'This is Spinal Tap'.

Yes, you can spend 60 seconds reading this well organised book, but you can also spend many hours going deeper or reflecting on the insightful thoughts which Phil Dourado has brought together here. Rather than an 'I did it my way' book on Leadership, Phil Dourado offers you the chance to consider how to make the best of your own leadership style rather than trying to copy someone else's design aka Karaoke Leadership.

This book ROCKS, and I should know about that!

I've just finished my dipping in and out method of reading this fabulous little book. Yes you can read it cover to cover but there is no need. Browse the conetnts and look up an area that interests you. I loved Phils easy and fluid style ( and some times witty asides ). It's a very well researched book and Phil Dourado certainly gets about, meets lots of 'gurus' and keeps great notes. I also particularly liked the stories. They bring all the subjects to life and are a great metaphor for leadership in themselves. I thought it was thought provoking, confirming and stimulating. Many leadership writers should take a leaf out of this style and way of communicating. Brilliant.

I think this is a great little book on leadership. It's made up of 30 two or three page chapters and that makes it addictively "dippable" - you find yourself reading "just one more chapter", even if you ought to be doing something else. Each of them is full of stories, quotes and observations from current and past leaders in politics, business and the military etc. I've developed something of an allergy to hearing so much about the great and the good, but this is written in such an engaging, accessible and non-academic style that it was a genuinely enjoyable read. A book that makes you feel you can be a better leader - which of course you always can. Great value.

The 60 Second Leader gathers the wisdom that leading thinkers and doers have learned and presents these findings in a very simple logical way. Suitable for anyone put off by management reading. This book shows how leadership is present in many forms and is fuelled by a desire to do something differently, to stop doing something or to think about something in a different way.

In essence this book does what it says on the cover; in 60 Seconds you can read a summary of key leadership theory, action and opinions. Then there are stories from famous people to illustrate the differing facets of leadership.

Most likely this will be bought by business owners or their aspiring employees, but business students would find much to work from within this little book. I would urge anyone who buys this book to pass it on after you've read it (as it says in the book 'leadership is viral: pass it on') by leaving their copy on a train, bus or any public place where it is likely to be a surprise read by others.

This book resonates as no other business book I've read in the last few years. 'Leaders don't create followers, they create more leaders'. Leadership is about inspiring others. It's about the power of connection and co-working. The best boss I've ever worked for could inspire you with a sense of his trust in your capabilities so that you achieved more than you thought yourself capable of doing. This book helps you to understand the essential qualities which produce an effective leader like that. The 60 Second Leader is essential reading for anyone in business or a team (leading it or not). It covers a huge amount of ground and yet is easy to read. Phil Dourado is to be congratulated on making his book such an enjoyable read. On every page are crystal clear messages and practical examples to help develop your thinking and being.
