I actually purchased my Tecsun PL-660 second-hand elsewhere but, as there were no reviews, I thought I would share my experience.

A brief look at YouTube will show you just how well this radio performs against its peers. The general consensus is that you will not find a better shortwave radio in the sub-£200 price bracket. It is sensitive, selective and seems to be very well made.

FM works well and there is an option to have stereo if you are using headphones. The sound quality is good (from the speaker or headphones) and you can receive relatively distant stations (though it is best not to use stereo in these circumstances)especially using an external antenna - I am based in Lancashire and get clear reception of BBC Cymru.

MW and LW are OK - but I would not buy this radio if this was my primary means of listening. It is not for MW/LW DXing and the sound quality is fairly average.

The Air Band is fine, though there is no squelch control. It is a nice add-on and can give you some interesting listening if you live near an airport.

As I said earlier, the SW is very very good and the SSB works well. The synch function is great and separates your desired station from those powerful stations that can bleed into it.

There are a few quirks, however. If you wish to have it standing, for example, you have to pull out a small metal stand from the rear. It is effective but it is central so you have to hold the back with your fingers as you are pressing the buttons with your thumb to avoid it turning.

As it arrives (with mine at least) the FM is set to 76-90mHz and LW is 'off'. There are buttons to change these (and to change LW to 9/10kHz steps) - but these buttons only work when the radio is off.
