how do I know what generation my nexus is? 22 Apr 2014
e 2012 model has a dimpled back cover with "NEXUS" engraved horizontally (in portrait mode) near the top without rear camera while the 2013 model has a flat back with "NEXUS" spelled out vertically with recessed inserts and a rear camera. Both devices have "ASUS" near the USB connector. The 2012's front camera is in the center while the 2013's camera is off to the right. On the 2012, both the USB and headphone jacks are on the same end as the speakers while on the 2013, the USB connector is on the bottom edge while the headphone jack is on the top edge. When you wake/sleep the 2012 model, the screen simply turns on/off. On the 2013, you see a short CRT-like animation. The side bezels on the 2013 are thinner than the 2012's and the 2013 model is almost 2mm thinner than the 2012. That's about it for the obvious differences. Its Bluetooth only, but it works fine with my Asus 7. Looks like a mini-laptop when in use. Nice aluminium protective shell when closed.
