5 of 5 people found the following review helpful By Chaz on 26 Jan. 2009
This is a very useful and well laid-out commentary on 1 Peter.

The format: It takes you through the letter specifically with the focus of teaching the book, so provides sermon and Bible study outlines, as well as illustrations and application where appropriate. Because of this it isn't a verse by verse commentary on the Greek text.

The text: it provides a thorough exposition of the text in a digestible way and competent way. But it isn't aiming to take you in detail into each word or verse, so don't buy it if that's what you're after! Instead it draws out the meaning of the text, how it fits into the rest of the passage/ chapter/ letter, and gives you a concise feel for the letter as a whole.

I would recommend it highly for anyone in the process of teaching 1 Peter (whether in sermon, group or one on one setting), but also for personal study, as long as you're happy to skip sermon outlines etc.

Helpful for the Pastor/Teacher 18 April 2013

MacLeay provides helpful insights into dealing with the text of 1 Peter in preparation for preaching. I certainly didn't use MacLeay's outlines, but they were suggestive and helpful as I sought to move from exegesis of the Biblical text to sermon preparation.

What a great resource! A must-have for any Bible teacher. Easy to use and draw applications and various teaching points. Very thorough without being 'more than you want or need' for a Sunday school or Bible study resource.
