I had carefully checked the spec of this before I bought it so I had no surprises but I've read a few reviews from people who thought the CD section was a recorder and so you could use the unit to transfer tapes to CDs. You can't, it's just a player. But it's a good CD player and it's a good cassette player/recorder. It's also got the ability to play mp3's off a memory stick, which is useful. you can also record mp3's on a memory stick, but unfortunately the bit rate is fixed at 128 kb/sec so that's much less useful than it might have been.
One other plus is that it's easy to buy rack ears for it and convert it into a 3u rackable unit perfect for use in a studio, which saves you a couple of hundred over the Tascam CA-750 equivalent. That's how I'm using it.
So, a decent bit of kit at a reasonable price and worth buying, though a wasted opportunity with the mp3 recording.
