Used in conjunction with a DSLR, despite whisper quiet zoom movement the sensitivity of the Rode microphone was still picking up noise during focus and zoom actions via the camera system. The features of this unit not only give perfect sound from your subject but also affords a backup recording at a lower level to safeguard your soundtrack, easy navigation menus make for simple changes in the field. Power consumption could become an issue for extended use but spare batteries and ease of access to replace these wouldn't justify lowering the five stars given, worth every penny for those serious about sound production.

I love my tascam, I really do. I call him Herman. Easy to navigate, the buttons feel immense (thats the essential part of a piece of equipment, the buttons) However, the volume controls are controlled via an encoder... This means that whenever you turn the volume up or down, it will click on the audio as it is trying to process the information it is receiving. If you are like me, and 'ride' the volume (adjust audio as recording) you are in for click world. If you turn the volume up and down slowly, 9/10 you avoid the clicks. So, 4 stars. Would be 5 if the volume controls worked differently.
