I own several of these (4 or 5) and collect Tamagotchi toys, and although I loved this toy when I first got it, it does get very boring after a while.
The idea is that you have to raise a virtual pet to become a music star. You can send it to preschool, and after you've owned it for a few days, it meets its band and you have to play games to make the virtual band practice. When your virtual pet grows up after approximately a week of being in your care, you have to send it to concerts with its band. If your band doesn't earn enough money, your can't afford food for your pet, so it dies. You need to have paid it a lot of attention in younger stages if you hope for it to succeed.
After about a week and a half, Guitartchi the matchmaker will offer your pet a mate. If you accept, the next generation will be born and you have to take care of it the same way. Its parent might help you out by sending money to the second generation.
The main problem with this toy is that it needs lots of attention. Children who go to school can't give it enough attention for it to succeed and continue to the next generation, and children too young for school can't understand it. The screen is also sufficiently smaller than that of other modern toys (e.g. Xbox, iPad) and I have read several complaints about the screen size and contrast.
Overall, this toy is a good Christmas holiday toy for children who are unable to play outside in the winter, but it won't provide long-term pleasure.
