Product Description

BP, East Sussex

"I just wanted to write and say how much I enjoyed your wonderful book...I salute you..."

Book Description

European sanitation, eccentric teachers, exquisite cars with symphonic engines, thunderous motorcycles, the humble 2CV, quirky characters, rogue motor traders, crazy songs, Jumbo Whiffy (the vicar's godson), the twitcher and the bird with the saucy name, the physicist pigeon, life in the 70s, spiritual insights, deep questions: there's both the serious and the ridiculous in here. Anyone who enjoys a humorous story should find plenty with which to amuse themselves.

From the Publisher

Finding the driving spirit...that is the fuel that propels everyone through life. This unique book shines like a set of halogen headlamps on the human soul. With honesty and vulnerability, the author offers us a journey that is both earthy and spiritual. Is heaven to be found in the character of a classic car, illuminated be a faulty interior light? Is there life beyond the breaker's yard?

From the Author

Rather than try to evaluate my own book (I think it's wonderful, of course) please read what others have said.

'It was as though someone had let off a whole crate of fireworks within the confines of that garage...vicious tongues of fire licked and menaced, serpent-like at the leg of our friend from the dealership...then, before the whole neighbourhood either came out menacingly, brandishing flaming torches and pitchforks or retreated to build fall-out shelters, the ignition was killed.'

'Up ahead, a low fat machine was topped off by a similarly dimensioned rider. One of them was making a loud, satisfyingly flatulent noise under acceleration...'

'Graham loudly introduced me to the clucking throng, whereupon I was entreated to what I must presume was the traditional local greeting: "Helloo Sarmon, d'ya want ter coom and dip yer chips in ma cooreh?" How we poor southerners miss out on life in all its fullness. I had never before in my life had an offer like that.'

"I've always believed in all sorts of things...I've spent my life walking down the middle of the road."..."That's a dangerous place to be," he said...'
