A Great but Pricey System 16 Jun. 2009
By D Jones - Published on Amazon.com
I've owned this system for several months. It is a niche product, a work of art as much as a sound system. Make no mistake, the sound from this well engineered system rivals the finest studio monitors, albeit from a single box. iPod lossless encoded music playback is indistinguishable from CD playback. It is a one cabinet solution to all the components and wiring required to match it. That makes it attractive! However, it is somewhat input limited. In addition to an iPod dock, CD player, and FM tuner, it has one rca L-R line input. At this price point digital inputs and additional line inputs should have been included. And that's the problem. The price point for this system is high. You can put together a very fine performing 5.1 surround system for the cost of this product. I bought this when the price was much lower. I'm very satisfied but this product is clearly aimed at a niche market. I'm not sure I'd pay the current price if I were in the market today.

UPDATE: I've now had this system for about two years. It continues to operate flawlessly and is still the best one-box solution for listening to the iPad at the highest audiophile level available today. To get the best out of this pricey system you should use the highest lossy bit rate or lossless recording formats. The quality in materials and workmanship of this system is without peer. I'm still very pleased.

IPod Speaker and more 30 Nov. 2010

I just received this and in the day I have used it I am quite impressed. The sound is everything I had hoped for and more. I have listened to a re-mastered Beatles album in mono and loved it. The voices were projected out into the room and the instruments sounded as if they were behind the singing. It is a stunning looking piece of furniture. Someone in another review complained of the glue staying behind when you peel off the protective plastic. It does, but I was able to remove it all with some elbow grease. Also said the FM antenna is a non match. Not so. You use the supplied adapter. This is one expensive piece of speaker to use as an IPod dock but if you have the money, I can't see any reason to not buy it. The stand that you can also buy is $200 and I also went with it, but if I had a place to put the speaker, I may have saved the $200. That is one expensive stand but it looks great. I hooked up a homedock for Sirius/XM to it and like to other stereo unit I was using for it, the sound level doesn't rise to the level that CDs and the IPod player does. I'm not sure why this is. I went back and forth as to whether or not I wanted to do a component system or this single unit. In the end I wanted something simple that would sound great, and I am so far quite happy.

I've been using this speaker for a couple of weeks now. The disc that the speaker comes with shows how much sound the speaker can deliver under optimum conditions. And it really does shine using this disc. However, most of my discs are of the older variety and these discs do not shine on this system. That's not to say they don't sound great. Most of them do sound nice, however, there is quite a range of quality from them. Put in a newer disc or the re-mastered Mono set by the Beatles I have been playing recently and this speaker will satisfy most, I believe. The Beatles Mono Edition sounds great on this speaker. I don't believe I have ever heard the Beatles' voices like this on any other system. I really don't understand why there aren't more inputs on this speaker. Having no jack for headphones makes no sense, and there is an unusable connection called the air for future use. But what future use is never defined. The FM tuner pulls in my favorites fairly well but I will look to uprade the antenna. Earlier reviews are correct to point out that 6 pre-sets on the remote are way too few. I still believe that if wires and cables and components fit into your space, you could certainly put together a better sounding system. But I was looking for a single, stand-alone unit and would certainly buy this again. Many people talk about speaker break-in period after use. If I hear the speaker sounding much better after a few months I will update this review.

I've been using this speaker for over a year now and I am quite satisfied. The sound from new CD's is quite good. It, however, as I have pointed out previously lacking for older cd's. I am not using it as much for my IPod only because the family has taken control of all the IPods in the house. But I have noticed the sound using the cable from the headphone input on an IPad has a somewhat poor quality. I listened with the IPad and then put in the disc I copied it from and the sound was like night and day. I don't have this lack of quality when using IPods which use the different connection. All and all if space is an issue, I still believe this is fine sounding machine. I'm still not sure going the component route wouldn't have been what I would have done now. I do like the idea I can move this speaker around and even take it outdoors for parties.

2 Year update. This speaker is better than ever. The sound never ceases to amaze me. I've moved it around in my room and can hear very noticeable difference to the quality of sound. I have had the opportunity to listen to other music systems for the portable devices and still think this is the best sounding. I wouldn't hesitate buying this again and I am happy I didn't go with a component system.

Very Impressed. 2 April 2010
By Timothy J. Palmer - Published on Amazon.com
I must pass on my feelings about the GenevaSound L . I also stumbled upon the system whilst mixing an album in New York at 'Electric Lady'. I was immediately impressed by both the look and sound of the Geneva. At first I thought it could be a mono unit but was happy to hear that it was in fact a good stereo sound. The thing I like most about it is the frequency response. It's a crisp clear bright sound, but the bass response is still strong and defined. Its a fabulous overall tone and it's loud. I have been mixing music for over 20 years now (U2, Pearl Jam, Ozzy Osbourne, Tears for Fears etc) and I am not easily impressed ! As soon as I heard the Geneva system I had to have one in my personal mix room. Now I am a fan. Tim Palmer [...]

Best IPod Dock EVER! 5 April 2009
By M. Silverman - Published on Amazon.com
I have had several IPod docks prior to this one, and they have all been TERRIBLE. Most docks have a inferior sound for a premium price. This unit is incredible! I currently use it as an IPod dock, to play CDs, the radio, and I even have it connected to my computer to act as computer speakers. The sound is fabulous. It fills up any room. This one little unit is better than some of my friends surround sound systems. With this, the style is great, and everyone who comes over wants to know what it is, and where they can get theirs.

I would recommend this to everyone!

The Geneva L is Outstanding 23 July 2010
By I McKinnon - Published on Amazon.com
I am a professional musician and music producer who demands excellence in sound reproduction. I own two Geneva sound systems - an L for home and an M for my office. The L replaced my home stereo about a year and a half ago. I'm extremely happy with the purchase. At high or low volumes (high when my wife is out of the house) the sound reproduction is outstanding. I use all the functions (CD player, ipod dock and FM radio) on a daily basis. Fantastic design and ease of use.
