Excellent performances from some exceptional artists!

While i don't think every track on the album is a 5-star performance, the combination of artists and performances gels to create something special; a compilation that hangs together beautifully, and becomes something greater than the sum of its parts.
There's something for everyone here, and I'd strongly recommend it if you like ANY of the artists listed and are looking to expand your musical horizons a bit.
After a couple listens I feel as if I've just wandered through a music festival sampling the very best and brightest.
Sonically, the MP3 albums' VBR tracks are very clean and the live recordings are excellent. Definitely worth a listen.

Great CD - odd size packaging

I admit that I am a bit biased since I am a HUGE T Bone Burnett fan. If I see that a cd had been produced by him, it is generally an automatic purchase. This one has met my expectations for excellence. Like his live work with the musicians from "O Brother Where Art Though" at the Ryman Theater, T Bone puts together a stellar cast of players. The bluegrass backed version of "Midnight Rider" with Gregg Allman is genius.
My only beef is with the packaging of this CD. Why in the world would you make the packaging 5 1/8" tall by 5" wide??? It is too tall to fit in most cd storage units and not as deep as the rest if you can get it to slide in making it recessed into the slot. DUMB DUMB DUMB!
