Book Description

3 Nov 1994 0851106528 978-0851106526
Wayne Grudem believes that 'theology is meant to be lived and prayed and sung' - but before this can happen, it must be understood.

In this best-selling textbook, each chapter begins with a clear definition of the doctrine under consideration and moves on to a thorough exposition of its basis in Scripture. Then follow questions for personal application which help to bring out the relevance of the doctrine to the life of the individual and the church; and finally, a hymn suitable for corporate use or personal meditation.

Controversial issues such as the baptism and gifts of the Holy Spirit, male-female roles in marriage and church, and the nature of final judgment are given a full treatment. Where he differs from other theologians, Professor Grudem is firm but courteous.

Wayne Grudem's warm, pastoral and practical approach to systematic theology has been widely appreciated. He demonstrates on page after page how important biblical doctrine is both for the spiritual health of the individual and for the well-being of the church at large.

From the Author

I have not written this book for other teachers of theology (though I hope many of them will read it). I have written it for students -- and not only for students, but also for every Christian who has a hunger to know the central doctrines of the Bible in greater depth.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent and thought provoking 30 Aug 2008
Format:Hardcover
I bought Grudems Systematic Theology in my second year of Theology in Leeds University. While I was there I found Grudems book a great resource to counter many of the arguments of the Liberal and Secular Theologians. What is also signicant is that Grudem does not merly set out what the Bible teaches in regard to theology but rather he presents to the reader the living God. Hence, one comes away not just being more informed about doctrine but he gets you to consider carefully the God who is self revealing and makes the point that, without knowing the God of the Bible all theology is as straw. So I cannot recommend this book enough and now that I have completed my degree in theology it remains a book of great value. You really get your money's worth!

4.0 out of 5 stars Systematic Theology 6 July 2009
Format:Hardcover
This book is a real acquisition for my bookcase. It is very systematic (see title) and very complete. Sometimes after Sunday service I consult this book to deepen my insight in a special topic. But this is also a book of strong opinions. If you do not agree you will be irritated. If you notice the nuances you will judge it as a goldmine.

4.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Textbook 2 Sep 2008
Format:Hardcover
A reasonably detailed study, but presented in an easily understood format. Grudem examines all the key doctrines, considering different viewpoints and forming well reasoned conclusions, which he supports with numerous scripture references. A must have item for the bookshelf of clergy and laypeople who wish to gain an understanding of the main theology issues.
