I came across this CD of Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5 arranged by Tanayev for 2 pianos quite by chance just now in the middle of the night and after listening to the MP3 excerpts, I have to say it's phenomenal! I will order it right now from Amazon after writing this initial review. The CD starts with excerpts from the composer's wonderful music from the ballets Swan Lake and Sleeping Beauty - the latter in very rare arrangements by Debussy with almost as much colour as the original orchestral versions. The playing is magnificent. Tempi are often quite slow - these are performances for both heart and head - also ideal for ballet class rehearsals and performances - the pianists let themselves go from time to time and the results are stunning! Such beauty and such depth of emotion in the music-making. It's quite an expensive CD, but I just have to buy it and you will feel the same way after hearing the extracts. The ballet music is available on MP3 too which is a great advantage.
