Interesting!!!! 13 Oct 2006
Format:Audio CD
This is a bit of a mixed bag but is very interesting, especially when played to those who say "Punk was just a racket, it wasn't proper music"

Some songs work better than others, but overall well worth a listen.

Punk Harmonies 4 Jun 2001
By G.L. - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
I first heard about this recording on John Peel's BBC World Service show. First he played the instrumental version of the Undertones' Teenage Kicks, and then the original. What the juxtaposition gave me was a sense of the melodious and the beautiful in punk music. And the rest of the album is similarly an exploration of three-chord progressions using string arrangements. There was sense to all of this. As opposed to, say, the lack of sense in having Metallica play with a string orchestra heavily distorted. Buy this. If you like sweet music, punk or classical, you'll love it.

Great Music, fun classical 1 Jun 2005
By S. Kochel - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
I am a teacher and this is classical music, but more driving and "fun," because it is, of course, punk music from the early scene (mostly UK). All the songs are well done (in my opinion), and I enjoy the variety greatly. It's such great mood music. The first time I ever heard it is when some friends of mine played it for their wedding march music, good choice (well at least for them).

"Interesting," but... 20 Mar 2011
By M. R. Nightingale - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
Well, what an interesting concept, I thought.
Yes, the concept of recording these seminal works of anti establishment people power with an orchestra is indeed interesting. What, unfortunately is less interesting is the end result.
Though the melodic forms that were perhaps somewhat masked in the original performances shine through these undoubtedly well performed pieces, the sad fact is that lacking a full orchestra - this seems to be to be only a string section - the full power of the punk revolution is sadly lacking.
If a full orchestra, with percussion, brass, woodwind, etc. had been employed the result might have been more invigorating and memorable.
What remains is a flawed (IMHO) experiment that leaves you feeling as if you have been trapped in a lift for an hour.
