Biography

Far and away the longest lasting and the most successful of the '70s progressive rock groups, Yes proved to be one of the lingering success stories from that musical genre. The band, founded in 1968, overcame a generational shift in its audience and the departure of its most visible members at key points in its history to reach the end of the century as the definitive progressive rock ... From the track list, you will establish that this took place around the time of the release of 'Magnification'. Now, I wasn't that keen on that album, but the tracks performed here come across well but, to my mind, aren't as strong as the 'classic' tracks which generally work well with the orchestra (when you can here it as it isn't invasive). For me, 'Close To The Edge', 'The Gates Of Delirium' and 'Ritual' are particularly good and for a reasonable price, you might award this 5 stars, but at 18, you might think 4 stars. If you like Yes, I think you'll appreciate the usual top notch performance with an added depth provided by the orchestra. It's certainly getting plenty of plays when I fancy a bit of live Yes.

When you listen to this you realise how close to the edge (sic) yes are to classical music.

This album adds new life and energy to some Yes classic tracks.

Shame its not a double album that would capture the entire concert.

I went to this concert at the Apollo Manchester, and bought the DVD straight away. I had to have it to play in the car. I could only find it on 1 CD disc with highlighted edition. This is the whole superb concert on 2 disc. Close to the Edge,The Gates of Delirium (Soon is like being in heaven),Ritual are the best live recordings ever.A must for all YES fans.
