Light music master,
This review is from: The Symphonic Eric Coates (Audio CD)
This is a wonderful disc, mixing familiar with some not-so-familiar items from Albert Coates' extensive output. Some of Coates' own recordings benefit, in a strange way, from being recorded in the dim and distant days of 78s which makes them sounds 'authentic'. However, the opulent modern sound of this disc not only makes for greater clarity but also makes Coates seem less on the fringes of early mid-Twentieth Century music than his own recordings perhaps do. One can sense that he was aware of Delius and Vaughan Williams as much as of Haydn Wood, for instance. Whether you like 'light music' or 'British music' you should not hesitate to buy this disc. After all, the only distinction should be whether the music is good or not - and this is much more than good!

Fantastic feelings and shivering emotions,
By Matti Mattila "dropkernel" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: The Symphonic Eric Coates (Audio CD)
Eric Coates is perhaps better remembered from his composition of "The Dam Busters", which is a great finalization to this album. In addition to this particular masterpiece the whole recording is full of the loveliest symphonic works from Coates and really provides shivering feelings and fantastic emotions when listening to it. Not only "Cinderella" and "The Selfish Giant" but also the rest of the album is worth enjoying. Exploration to modern classical music brings out fantastic feelings.
