Norton SystemWorks 2.0 provides an integrated suite of software applications which cover almost every aspect of keeping your Mac running smoothly, as well fixing problems when they arise. This new version now works in Mac OS X, providing protection for users of Apple's latest operating system.
The suite consists of four components:
Norton Utilities 7.0, one of the best known Mac disk utility packages, offers a full range of disk and file maintenance functions, allowing you to recover badly damaged disks, fix minor disk and file damage, optimise your drive by de-fragmenting files and applications and recover accidentally deleted files. If the worst happens, and you find that you can't even start up from your Mac's hard drive, the Norton SystemWorks 2.0 CD also works as a Start-up disk, giving you a chance to recover files and fix the damaged drive. Also included on the bootable CD is Alsoft Disk Warrior Recovery Edition, another powerful utility which has a great reputation for recovering files from hard drives that are severely damaged.
Norton AntiVirus 8.0 provides simple and comprehensive virus protection. Version 8.0 of the AntiVirus application not only protects you from a huge range of viruses, but will even scan e-mail attachments and file transfers as you download them, to prevent infected files from even reaching your Mac. The LiveUpdate feature keeps all the Norton applications and the essential virus definition files up-to-date by automatically checking for updates when you connect to the Internet, or at prescheduled times.
Dantz Retrospect Express makes backing up files an easy and logical process. Backing up your essential files is always advisable, but often difficult to do effectively. Dantz Retrospect Express allows you to automate the process, backing up to removable media such as Zip or Jaz drives, CDRW, another hard drive, or to an Internet archive with ease. The wide range of configuration options take some time to organise, but once this is done backing up becomes a single-click operation.

Currently some features of previous versions of Norton SystemWorks, such as Speed Disk do not run under Mac OS X. However, by booting your Mac from the Norton SystemWorks 2.0 CD all the features of Norton SystemWorks 1.0 are available, and work just as well on disks with Mac OS X installed.
Users of Mac OS 8 or OS 9 should note that the Norton SystemWorks 2.0 package includes Norton SystemWorks 1.0 for operating systems older than Mac OS X, so if you already own this version and do not use Mac OS X, Norton SystemWorks 2.0 offers no new features for you.

Problems with Mac OSX 10.2,

This software is billed as being "built for Mac OS X" and carries a sticker saying "compatible with OSx v10.2", but if you do not have OS 9 drivers installed on your hard drive, you will not be able to run Disk Doctor or Speed Disk properly. (You can check whether you have them by going into the Disk Utility app on your Mac). This makes this bundle of software only half useful - and disappointingly expensive - for those users among us who are only running the latest operating systems. Spring Cleaning works well though.

If you have a Mac and use it a lot, this is simply a must-have. After a while your system get clogged up and behaves sluggishly. Optimise it with Norton and it is as good as new. Accidentily deleted a file? Recover it. Yes, you can even try to recover your hard drive if it gets damaged. And although viruses for attacking Macs are rare, you'll get Norton Anti-Virus, too. And iClean to wipe out all cookies, history files, cache files etc. from your browsing - and they can amount to some megs after a while!
