Among others, I purchased this book along with "SYBASE SQL SERVER 11 UNLEASHED". I was amazed to find that both books contain largely the exact same text. Not almost the same words but EXACTLY the same text. Either book is useful by it's self however, there is no point in purchasing them both. While I am a dedicated follower of the "UNLEASHED" series, I was very disappointed in the publisher this time.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Dba Book 28 Mar 2000
Format:Paperback
This is quite a good book and explains the basics as well as some more advanced features of sybase. It does have a handy little detactable cheat sheet of common commands in front cover. It doesn't mention any virtual tools which I think is a good thing but gives raw sql commands. The only fault: it does not once mention Linux install base, but there is enough info to muddle through.

Sybase Sql Server 11 Dba Survival Guide is now the one book I take with me instead of the 4 or 5 books I have carried before. All of the essentials are here. I also like the tips and tricks that the author has put in. Much of this info can be found in the product manuals but is very hard to extract. This book has it right where I need it -- all in one place.

4.0 out of 5 stars The one Sybase reference I use all the time. 6 Aug 1998
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I have several Sybase reference books and this is the one I keep handy. While not as in depth as some of the references I've seen, it's a very good tool for when you want to look something up fast or to jog your memory. Often, I'll start with this book and go elsewhere if I need more depth. It's organized pretty well and is often adequate by itself. I'd like to see an update for the 11.5 version of Sybase. A lot of the examples still reference version 10.x (not a big deal however).

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice Sybase book 15 Sep 2013
By Danny L. Thornton - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I took the sybase course and got the book in the course. I had the orginal book
in my book case at my office. One of my co-workders stole the book (or borrowed
it without permission and never returned it ... You figure out what the situation
with this is). Anyway, I needed a replacement book. Got a good deal through
Amazon on the replacement book. It was it excellent condition. The cost for the
book was pretty reasonable and I needed the book for my job.
