Product Description

Sword of Shame is the second collaboration by five of the UK's finest historical mystery writers. Each brings their own characters to these interlinked tales, which tell the story of a cursed Norman sword. From its first arrival in Britain, with the Norman forces of William the Conqueror, violence and revenge are the cursed sword's constant companions. From an election-rigging scandal in 13th century Venice to the battlefield of Poitiers in 1356, as the Sword of Shame passes from owner to owner, it brings nothing but bad luck and disgrace to all who possess it.

A group of historical mystery writers each write a linked section of a tale about a sword. Unlike the first story by this group, The Tainted Relic, the mixture of styles doesn't jar and if you're a dedicated fan of the authors characters, you'll enjoy meeting them at different stages of the plot.

Having only recently come to these Medieval Murderfests,I am quite enjoying the progression of the ill favoured article along a lengthier time frame than could be achieved using only the one writer. It is also helping me get over an aversion to the writings of Michael Jecks who's first novel left me hoping, nay praying, that the bad guy would escape!! Having read most of the works of the other writers,I find the short story format works reasonably well, as I know how the interactions between the characters works. However it may be confusing to readers who are new to the writers as there is little time to develop a rapport with them.
With this second storyline-The Sword-changes hands leaving the usual wake of death as it does so.It also travels quite a way across Europe and back again and I do like how it then gets hidden up the chimney for some of it's life.More realistic than just disappearing into oblivion.I found the deaths also more believable than those in the first book [The Tainted Relic] so overall a more satisfying read overall.
I understand why we have the jump from Tudor to the present day,but wouldn't it be interesting to have an in-between story!! OK so they would have to change their collective name but...

very interesting in the way the authors have interwoven the different periods and linked the people who became involved with the sword over the centuries.
