Sword Point is an excellent example of the military genre that many have emulated since. Diving straight into the action, the author introduces the characters to be focused on on each side and lets the action flow around them in this hypothetical conflict between mid Eighties' America and Soviet Union in Iran. Coyle's style allows the frustration of each country's military adventure to come to the fore in this difficult region by concentrating on all aspects of the conflict, air, land, sea, at the front line and in the all important logistics arm. Be aware, though, that the US does not have it all its own way in the campaign and the opposition is not that stereotyped...

Really good read except that every time the Russians win they always got it back with interest. Coyle sometime forgets that both sides have similar weapons although never seem to deploy them at the same time. Can't be all bad though, I've read the book three times!
