5.0 out of 5 stars Howling good fun! 27 Dec 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Couldn't resist the pun... I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This book was a nice surprise - I'm not normally a fan of supernatural / paranormal books, but this one started with enough of a punch to suck me in to the story. The novel follows Ashlee (a reluctant lycanthrope), her sister (I won't spoil the surprise) and an ex lover from her school days as they try to unravel a string of sinister threats in the small town where they live. On top of all that, our heroine has to deal with her monthly tendency to turn into a wolf - something which tends to get in the way of rekindling old romances and getting to the bottom of dastardly plots.

Overall, there's nothing too heavy here - but the snappy dialogue, fast pacing and clever writing style really keeps you turning the pages and wondering what's going to befall the characters as the plot drives towards its exciting climax. There's also enough of an edge to the action to keep things suspenseful, and there are some genuinely laugh-out-loud moments, along with a classic whodunit to top it all off.

Difficult to pin this one into just one genre - there's a bit of romance, horror, action, thriller, and mystery - but where some authors would struggle to balance these elements, Drew Vandyke finds the perfect mix. A fantastic start to what I'm sure is going to be a gripping series.

5.0 out of 5 stars What's Not to Like? 4 Jan 2014
By Gwen - Published on Amazon.com

Not normally my cup of tea but once into the book I had to finish it. It was surprisingly good for a female werewolf, lycanthrope if you will. The story of identical twin girls and their wildly differing lives. Amber is the cheerleader type, while Ashleigh is the tomboy. When Ashleigh returns home after being shot in the backside by a dart on one of her change overs she barely escapes and returns to her small town and her twin to get some down time and then the story really takes off. The book was humorously written and was not too heavy, never any down time, always moving and entertaining. Highly recommended for a change of pace for adults.

David VanDyke is my favorite science fiction writer and at his suggestion, I read his brother's Drew VanDyke's fine book; looks like the family has something special in their blood.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun and witty 25 Dec 2013

As a fan of David VanDyke's sci-fi books, I was really curious about how his paranormal novel had turned out. This was a fun read. The heroine was a bit kooky, but likeable and funny nevertheless. There's a mystery going on, and Ashley, our werewolf girl, has to learn the truth as she struggles with an on-and-off relationship with her ex, her twin sister, and other members of her extraordinary family.
A quick read that keeps you giggling throughout the whole book.
Definitely recommended for the genre lovers.

5.0 out of 5 stars What what in the butt... 11 Jan 2014
By Kayla West - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I couldn't resist the title.

Okay, so I received this book for an honest review, and boy am I going to be honest. Now, let me first say that I was surprised that this book was written by two beings of the male gender. The reason being that the characters, well at least the three main woman characters, are so perfectly written out that I was amazed at their personalities. WELL DONE, MEN!
Now on to the story.
It was entertaining from the very beginning. Hence the funky title. You find that the main MAIN character, the character we most focus on, was shot in the butt. Yes. Let me repeat one more time...shot in the butt. How did that exactly happen? Well, let's just say that a hunter might have mistaken her for a wolf? Okay, so they may have not mistaken her as one so much as she IS one. That's right. Wolf-girl in the hizz-ouse.
Anyway...
There is also a lurv interest in this book, between the main character and her high school on-again-off-again boyfriend. However, it is somewhat hard to become involved with someone when you are A) haunted by a terrible event from your past, brought to life by the fact that you have moved back to your hometown involuntarily, and 2) you're a werewolf!
Yeah, the whole wolf thing tends to complicate matters.
Also, it doesn't help when someone is threatening you at every turn. With the usual items, of course. Threatening letters, the occasional animal heart in a box...WHAT?
I guess if you want to delve into the madness that is my review, you will have to read this book. It is a wonderful read that made me laugh, gasp in surprise, and turn pages like crazy in order to find out what happened next.
So, go ahead, find out what it's like for yourself. But I'm warning you, you will not be able to put it down once you start.
