SUMMARY: Ideal for one person, or for more than one when you need caff. and decaff. and/or different coffee strengths. I bought several for maximum flexibility. Quick and easy to use, produces filter coffee in minutes, and takes only a moment to clean. Sturdy and looks smart. Recommended.

The instructions say it's dishwasher-proof. I haven't tested that (I'd try it first in the upper basket) as it cleans quickly and easily by hand.
Previously, I'd used single-use filters that incorporate the coffee, but they take up space, long-term they cost more and, importantly, they've a fixed portion of coffee. This permanent filter avoids those issues and is so handy if people like different coffee strengths or if someone wants decaff and another not (on rare occasions when everyone wants the same I fill a cafetiere). I didn't want a re-usable filter that requires buying filter papers.
The unit has three sections. Amazon's picture at time of writing shows filter unit (bottom of filter visible) with water regulator slotted into it, and the lid.
1. FILTER UNIT - rest it on a cup or mug then put in your desired measure of ground coffee.
2. WATER REGULATOR - slot into the filter unit, pour in boiling water, some for a cup, to the top for a mug (depends on cup/mug size).
3. LID - keeps things hot; designed so it can be inverted afterwards as a drip-catcher for the combined filter unit and water regulator.

If like me you love good coffee but more often than not are making it just for your self then this is in my opinion the best way by far of making a great coffee. I have tried pretty much every method from paper filters through esspresso makers, various coffee capsules machines and so on. So I have tried most methods, the makers claim that the gold filter lets the oils of the coffee through and so you get a better flavour, I think they are right. I have now had two of these for several years, one at home and one in the office. A spoon or two of ground coffee, some hot water and a splash of milk and perfect coffee every time. To clean just go to the bin tap the used grounds out and rinse under a tap easy. Highly recommended

I bought one of these as a birthday present for my mum. She the only coffee drinker in the house since we all grew up and moved away and has been looking for an easy way to make a single cup of proper coffee. She loves it and is very happy with how it filters. This is a great solution for people who want to make a decent cup of coffee but don't really need a coffee machine.
