This new CD reissue of an early 60's Verve recording is superb. At the time of the recording, stereo was perfected, and the dynamics of Anita O'Day and the Billy May all star studio band are captured to perfection. The tempo is up on almost all numbers, and even the numbers with strings swing beautifully. Anyone interested in jazz vocals with a top notch band interpreting the best of American popular song will not be disappointed with this very welcome release. Not to be missed!

28 MINUTES 16 Nov. 2004
By alain robert - Published on Amazon.com

I thought the bonus tracks were hidden before i found out that they did not included any.The COLE PORTER disc had 6.It is hard to imagine a cd lasting less than 30 minutes. They could have included at least THE LADY IS A TRAMP and I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT TIME IT WAS.As it is,it is still worthwhile for the RODGERS and HART fan.One can imagine the reaction of DICK RODGERS when he heard HAVE YOU MET MISS JONES done in the uptempo style. It seems that TEN CENTS A DANCE could have been written for ANITA because she sings it so well.I think that FRANK SINATRA was right when he said that working with BILLY MAY,the arranger-conductor was like someone trowing a buckett full of water in your face. However, the RODGERS and HART set of BUDDY BREGMAN and ELLA FITZGERALD remains the best tribute of that time.

More evidence of Anita's versatility 9 Jun. 2012
By Mike Tarrani - Published on Amazon.com
I was torn between four and five stars, but decided on five. There are a few reasons for this. First, even by 1960 LP standards, this album is short. Second, the first two tracks are not 'grabbers'. They are certainly excellent renditions of Johnny One Note and Little Girl Blue, but the compositions do not allow Anita to cut loose in her characteristic, swinging style.

What nudged this into five stars were the arrangements on the rest of the tracks and the choice of songs. Both aspects showcase Anita's abilities as a vocalist and musician, as well as the genius of Rogers and Hart.

Another reason I love this album is Anita's rendition of one of my favorite songs: Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered. I measure a vocalist's ability to sing a ballad by who well they handle that song. I give her an A+ on that track, and extra credit because the track is 4:22 long. Would be that the rest of the tracks were as extended. Two of my other favorite tracks on the album are I Could Write a Book and It Never Entered My Mind. Those choices reflect my personal taste and are subjective. The best way to determine if the songs (and their arrangements and backing ensembles) are to your own taste is to listen to the sound samples on this page. Trust your ears and not my blathering.

While the length of this album may put you off even if you do love the music, you can get this plus seven other O'Day albums from her Verve years on 8 Classic Albums. Not only does that value-priced set contain some of her best work, but it also contains her other Billy May collaboration, Swings Cole Porter.
