Product Description

Product Description

The James Pearson Trio are the resident band at the world-renowned Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club. Having performed together nightly at the venue for 3 years, this album was recorded live at the club to capture the verve and dynamism of one of their evening sets. There is plenty of buzz from the crowd to add to the energy generated by the musicians, and a performance that displays what an outstanding ensemble they are.

Review

For poise, balance and swing they're a joy to listen to. -- The Observer, 18/10/2009

His dazzling style encompasses Erroll Garner, JS Bach, Oscar Peterson, Dr John and almost anyone else. -- The Evening Standard, 17/08/2009

I've always been a sucker for piano trios and the level of invention and resource on offer places this amongst the best of its kind. -- Jazzwise Magazine, Nov 2009

In a set full of contrast and colour, the Beatles tunes Lady Madonna and Here, There and Everywhere come close to stealing the show. -- The Sunday Times, 25/10/2009

5.0 out of 5 stars Swing The Club James Pearson Trio 16 Sep 2009
Format:Audio CD
The James Pearson Trio is in my opinion the best jazz trio in Europe today. This album is superb and a must for the jazz collector. The supreme piano playing by James Pearson and the amazing drumming of Chris Dagley is breathtaking - jazz at its best and so exciting.

In a set full of contrast and colour, the Beatles tunes Lady Madonna and Here, There and Everywhere come close to stealing the show." THE SUNDAY TIMES

4.0 out of 5 stars Keep Going James 10 Dec 2013

Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Have seem James several times at the Club and believe these have been superior to those on the disc, but he recorded that
about five years ago, so he is definitely improving!

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant! 9 Oct 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
We heard James Pearson playing a jazz evening live and were bowled over by his astonishing skill and versatility, not to mention the relaxed humour with which he introduced his programme. As a solo pianist he can play perfectly in any style from Earl Hines and Art Tatum through Errol Garner and George Shearing to Gershwin, Peterson and Monk.
Many of those piano styles are on display right here on this recording and the playing is dazzling. The pace and mood of the tracks vary and that adds to the interest. In the short time I've had the CD I've already played it many times, and I keep discovering new treasure. He is well partnered by the other two members of the trio, who are, like James, based at Ronnie Scott's in London.
Without hesitation I recommend this CD of the James Pearson Trio. If you like jazz, you'll love this.
