Product Description

Spanish con-man potboiler directed by Javier Bardem's (Before Night Falls)brother, Miguel. Ernesto (Ernesto Alterio) is a top-drawer con man, proud of his work but he's stuck in the small potatoes world of train stations and convenience stores. One day a chance meeting with the elderly El Manco, (Manuel Alexandre) himself a man at the top of the con game, looks like catapulting him into the big leagues. El Manco is privy to the ear of the famed Federico, (Federico Luppi) undisputed monarch of the scam world who passes on a big-earning property scam to the pair. The catch? It involves cooperation with the beautiful Pilar (Victoria Abril), a former con artist who's still on Federico's hit list for scamming him years earlier.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Spanish con film to end ALL cons !!!!! 29 Mar 2010
By Dazman
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
This film is full of con people, there's a good amount of humour with fine performances both young and old from the entire cast.

This is basically about the ultimate con, conning a con man, I can't really explain the plot anymore than that as I'd be giving too much away, think Dirty rotten scoundrels, but this has alot more than 3 con artists in it, to say the least!!!

If you like con films that have plenty of twists and turns that will keep you guessing just who is conning who then this will be the film for you. I'd not say it's great, but it is very good.

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting Film 15 Dec 2013

This film is interesting and fun but the plot is somewhat far fetched. Victoria Abril really keeps the film going. Fun Film.

3.0 out of 5 stars Plot plausibility 2 Sep 2013
By andy
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
An enjoyable film as long as you don't analyse the plausibility of the plot.

How many people are involved in this complicated con and complicated plot.

Just where does the money come from that the con is about, or ultimately is it just a con trick on the audience?

If the plot was more plausible I would have rated the film higher.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you liked the Sting or Nine Queens, fasten your seat belt 11 April 2013
By Viejo - Published on Amazon.com
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
I bought the movie based on the title and the fact that Federico Luppi was one of the starring players. This is a movie that resembles "The Sting" or "Nine Queens." It is very well done--great dialog, fast paced. Throughout the movie I tried to anticipate the ending--I had constructed several plausible endings--and all of them wrong! I won't give away any plot details and various instances of plausible misdirection--you should discover these on your own.
3.0 out of 5 stars Spanish Scam Artists 9 Feb 2010
By Jeffery Mingo - Published on Amazon.com
Format:DVD
This was a non-comedic, Spanish version of "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels." It tests whether you can deal with having a main character be villanous. "The Talented Mr. Rpipley" did the same thing. The scenery reminded me of Almadovar's work, but the film lacked is quorky messages about gender, sexuality, and sundry topics. It was more interesting near the beginning than by the end. Watching this was a great way to listen to more Spanish and bone up on those skills. This wasn't award-winning, but it wasn't terrible either. Why not peep it?

3.0 out of 5 stars I enjoyed it. 10 Aug 2010

The first reviewer of this DVD pretty much nailed it. I do not believe there is need to comment any further. And I also like watching Spanish films to improve my Spanish. :)

I like watching and hearing Victoria Abril's voice in movies. I am a fan. I also enjoy Frederico's acting.
