4.0 out of 5 stars back to basics but well worth having 30 Mar 2008
I'm a masters swimmer who trains most of the time on my own so a book like this is a reall boon. There are some very noddy beginners drills but the stroke development drills are well explained and the reasons for doing them set out.

Think it would make a good additon to most club coaches collection - most of the drills you'll be familiar with but good to have them in one collection an so clealy explained.

Not content with one copy I got my club to purchase another seven. A few months later the transformation poolside is noticeable - teachers & assistant teachers refer to the book all the time and create their own mix of drills when teaching right through the courses we deliver. We have our favourites. All work. The progressions into each competitive stroke could not be better, there are fun practical drills too ... and of course dives & turns. My wish is for a large format version that I could better use poolside when demonstrating to swimmers. Great stuff.

1.0 out of 5 stars No use for PE teachers 7 Sep 2013
By mac
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
As the vast majority of the drills require flippers or fins this book is almost useless for me because as a PE teacher each child does not have access to these. The book does not follow any logical, progression and drills requiring a high level of skill are mixed in with much more basic ones. The layout of the book however is good with relatively clear diagrams but gave me no new ideas at all. A complete waste of money

this book is good if you need some ideas for your swimming workouts but you have to understand what is wrong with your stroke to be able to select right drills

5.0 out of 5 stars Swimming drill book 3 Feb 2014
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I bought this as I am a swimming teacher and was looking for some different drills to use with my students. It's a really useful book however not so good for use with beginner classes but works well for those at higher levels, club level or for adult intermediate and advance swimmers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Clear, Concise and Easy to Read 25 Nov 2011
The Swimming Drill Book is very well illustrated and clearly explains how to get the best out of each swimming drill. It covers all four basic swimming strokes as well as starts and turns and the diagrams help to make each drill clear. There is nothing revolutionary in this book but it covers enough for the average basic swimmer to be able to fine-tune their swimming strokes in a clear and concise way. Recommended to anyone wanting to improve their swimming technique.

Was expecting a few different practices as this book had good reviews. Nothing in here you can't find on the internet unfortunately.

Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
As an ASA swimming instructor the guide provides an excellent reference book for basic drills to add variety to the development of technique. Its clear and simple; but not waterproof....
