Product Description

Product Description

This new addition to the "Anatomy" series will show the reader how to improve their performance by increasing muscle strength and optimising the efficiency of every stroke. "Swimming Anatomy" includes 74 of the most effective swimming exercises, each with step-by-step descriptions and full-colour anatomical illustrations highlighting the primary muscles in action. This book goes beyond exercises by placing the reader on the starting block, in the water and into the throes of competition. Illustrations of the active muscles for starts, turns and the four competitive strokes (freestyle, breaststroke, butterfly and backstroke) shows how each exercise is fundamentally linked to swimming performance. The swimmer will also learn how exercises can be modified to target specific areas, improve form in the water and minimise common swimming injuries. Best of all, how to put it all together to develop a training programme based on individual needs and goals. Whether training for a 50-metre freestyle race or the open-water stage of a triathlon, "Swimming Anatomy" will ensure the reader enters the water prepared to achieve every performance goal.

I have ordered many books on fitness and have never before been moved to write a review. I finally hit the jackpot and made an excellent choice in ordering this book! It makes for a great read, right off the bat. Most important is how the author clearly explains how each excercise is linked to what the swimmer will want to call upon once in the water. The drawings are very effective in conveying a better understanding of what muscles we should be targetting. The emphasis on the right technique is brilliant.
I am amazed not more people have written a glowing review.

I'm a Masters swimmer and have been out of the water for some time. I bought this book to "fast track" myself back into fitness. I think it is fair to say that the book contains _no_ new exercises; however what the book does, and does *really well*, is show you why an exercise is good for certain parts of your swim stroke.

Having read it end-to-end in a couple of hours I produced a couple of strength training regimes to work through. I would recommend this book to pretty much any swimmer who wants to do something to complement their pool training.

This a great book. It shows cutaway diagrams for different parts of strokes, starts and turns. It also suggests exercises to strengthen these areas.

I found it useful as I find it difficult to visualise how the muscles are working during swimming, and it's something I'd never quite got my head around until now!
