Jelly Strainer 26 Oct 2009
By kitty
As a bone idle jam maker, my preference is for making jellies, barely any preparation or measuring of ingredients and no nasty "bits" in your preserves (you get to an age where raspberry pips are pergatory)
Given that I have spent the last 40 odd years tying jelly bags to the legs of a chair upturned on the kitchen table, I could not believe my eyes when I found this gizmo. Comes with it's own jelly bag, but the one I had fits too, so it is designed to fit a standard bag, looks unstable but in fact it is as steady as a rock. I stood mine inside a bowl which I tucked away in a corner of the worktop inaccessible to the cat , so we have regained a kitchen table. The only loser is the cat who used to enjoy playing "Pat a cake" with the suspended dripping jelly bag when the chair method was used. What a pity the children failed to inform me at the time.

rusty 30 Jan 2010
By A Customer
this jelly strainer looked nice and appeared to be good value , but after a couple of chutney making sessions the frame started to rust so i had to replace it with a plastic framed model. would not buy this type again but it did work just not for long

When I got this, I used it to make some champagne & elderflower jelly a la Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall - hark at me ! (oh ,alright, it was a bottle of supermarket Cava & there weren't any elderflowers but bear with me). I was experimenting,in preparation for my sister in laws upcoming wedding / night time do & it worked a treat.
Having a stand for your bag, saves having to hold onto it whilst your liquid seeps through & you can potter about doing something else (pottering - when did that happen ? good grief, I'm turning into my parents)
I bought this not only to help out with the catering at said wedding but also, with the intention of upping my jam & jelly yield (my children are looking on with concern at the prospect of going on a forced diet with no solids, just jelly, jelly & more jelly) & I think it looks more than promising - it's a pretty decent bargain & takes no time to put together. It will be interesting to see how the bag (with it being elasticated at the top) holds up after some more usage but so far, no complaints. One note of caution - it is not the worlds biggest jelly bag & stand, I found it adequate but you may not,so check the dimensions before you buy.
Look, just because I enjoy making jelly & think this is a really great investment, doesn't make me dull....

Rusty after only 2nd use.
This stand and bag looked ideal for what I needed, and indeed worked very well. Problem is that after just two uses the metal stand was showing signs of rust and the bag had a grey... Read more

Swift Jam Straining Set
The best thing about this set is the small price, if you are only intending to give jelly making a go before deciding if you ever want to do it again. Read more

Jelly strainer
Although the strainer works OK, the size is too small for my needs. When I make crabapple or quince jelly,
I need to strain in batches.

Useless for the serious jam maker
This item is no use if you are making jam in quantities of more than 1 jar at a time. The bag provided holds no more than a few grams of fruit, and the feet will not hold on... Read more

Works well, but........
Delivery was quick and the product is good. However, the straining bag is fairly small so if you are doing a lot (we were making crabapple jelly) be prepared to do it in a number... Read more
