Book Description

Dec 1999
When a woman who's ready for love meets a dangerous, passionate man, she can easily get Swept Away....

Bestselling, award-winning author Marsha Canham's breathtaking new novel transports readers to Regency England as a young woman rescues a mysterious man, only to find love, danger, destiny....

"They have to know the truth. Before it is too late." Those were the half-naked stranger's only words as he opened his eyes, looked into her soul, then lost consciousness in the shallow tidal pool. Annaleah Fairchilde, heiress and noblewoman, soon learned the identity of the man she saved: Emory Althorpe, adventurer, accused traitor, and Napoleon's spy. Even as she bound the dangerous scoundrel's wounds, she fell deeper under the spell of a man handsome as the devil, sent to her by fate.

He remembered nothing. Only the need to escape. Emory Althorpe was wanted for treason, yet his only hope was a shadowy memory hovering just beyond his grasp, and beautiful Anna, who aroused unexpected passions. He had no choice but to abduct her, needing her to gain access to London's ballrooms, where he could prove his innocence. Together they raced into the face of danger, determined to find the key to his past and live--or die--together, as destiny decreed....

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent! 28 April 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
A wonderful story with great historical detail and believable characters. The plotting was great - you were never really sure who the traitor was almost until they were revealed.

Everything about this book was marvellous. The characters, the pace, the plotting, the romance. I wish I'd known about this writer before. She is incredibly skilled and intelligent. I can't tell you how much I enjoyed Swept Away. I'd give it 10 stars if I could.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Exciting Regency Ride 14 Sep 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
I don't usually "do" regency romances. They are rather formulaic for me: 1 rake + 1 ravished virgin = scandal & forced marriage, or there abouts. Thankfully, this regency by Marsha Canham is refreshingly different.

Without giving the secrets of the plot away, the gyst is this: The heroine, Annaleah has refused to accept the hand in marriage of a man of her parents' choosing, so as punishment, she is sent to languish with an old spinster aunt in a crumbly old manor house in Cornwall hoping that a lengthy spell of boredom away from the bright lights of her usual social circle will bring her to her senses. Boy were they wrong!

She finds a near naked man washed up and unconscious on the beach, and raises the alarm. He is brought back to her Aunt's house where he is tended, but when he awakens, he suffers from complete memory loss. Before long, its realised that he is wanted by the authorities, and he has to go on the run but not before he has established a connection with Annaleah. Not knowing who he is, what he is running from, what he has done or where he is running to, he kidnaps Anna to help him find his way.

Although there's lots of action and drama, there is much humour too to balance, and of course lots of sizzling sensuality to keep you page turning. The fun comes from their relationship whilst on the run: fighting those that would capture him, fighting each other and also their progressive feelings for one another, also adding to the rollercoaster his occasional recalls of memory and the quest to clear his name - oh and lots and lots of sexual chemistry.

Its a winner. An aimiable heroine, a gorgeous multi-faceted hero, memorable and interesting secondary characters (Annaleah's eccentric Auntie is a real scene stealer), lots of intelligent (and non-corny) conversation, masses of action, and some steamy sex scenes to boot.

I loved it; its a definite keeper.
