Book Description

21 Sep 1999

It was without a doubt the most conniving, lowlife trick ever played on a man. But it was for a good cause...

Eulie Toby didn't like playing tricks, but the only way she could keep her younger orphaned siblings together was to get married--and Moss Collier was the perfect choice. Handsome and kind, he seemed so lonely living with his hermit uncle on that pretty sweep of Tennessee mountaintop. It didn't matter if their vows came at the end of a shotgun; Eulie promised Moss she'd make him the best wife in all of the Sweetwood.

But a young bride and a ready-made family were the last things on Moss's mind. He had big dreams of going West and nothing was going to stop him--not Eulie's sweet innocence...not her deliciously kissable lips...and especially not that growing warmth deep inside his heart every time she came near. Moss had plans all right--but he hadn't planned on falling in love.

Review

"Like LaVyrle Spencer, Pamela Morsi writes tender books about decent people struggling to find love."-- Susan Elizabeth Phillips"Morsi writes romances that read like fables or parables. Her books capture a certain sweetness grounded in human fallibility that is utterly charming."-- "Miami Herald""Pamela Morsi has a knack for transforming everyday people into memorable giants." -- "Rendezvous"

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great romance from Pamela Morsi 15 Aug 1999
By A Customer
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Romance author Pamela Morsi strikes again. She's written another funny, tender love story featuring an unlikely pair--a confirmed bachelor groom (with a shotgun at his back) and a young bride so desperate to find a home for herself and her younger siblings that she traps a stranger in a loveless marriage. Once again, Ms. Morsi's characters come alive on the pages of her latest book. We suffer with them when things go bad. We root for them to overcome hardships, doubts and crises--and celebrate when they do.

3.0 out of 5 stars Started off so good... 28 July 1999
By A Customer
Format:Mass Market Paperback
This was my first Pamela Morsi book. I absolutely loved the first 2/3 of this book. The love scenes between Eulie and Moss were tender and teasing, the supporting characters were interesting. But at some point, the supporting characters took over the plot line. Did we really need to imagine legless Uncle Jeptha with an erection in a bathtub? Did we need the details of hard working Ransom suddenly on a wild spree - losing a large sum of money in a poker game and then shooting his opposing players? I don't think so. At first I thought that I had discovered a new favorite author - but now I'm not sure.

4.0 out of 5 stars Matron lies to get shotgun wedding. 11 July 1999
By A Customer
Format:Mass Market Paperback
It is a shotgun wedding where the bride lies to gain a husband and a life for herself, her four sisters and her teen age brother. Mosco Collier never even touched the girl, but the town doesn't believe him and he is sentenced to wed her with a shotgun stuck in his shoulder blades. Pamela Morsi offers a look into life in the back woods. Country life and notions mix with a forced marriage to make a pastoral pageant of romance. Moss and Eulie start out as chalk and cheese, but how do they find their way to romance?

4.0 out of 5 stars Pamela Morsi is always good; flawed heroine 11 July 1999
By A Customer
Format:Mass Market Paperback
It doesn't sit well with me that the heroine trapped the hero into marriage "for his own good" and for hers too. Once I got beyond outrage about that, I did enjoy this book very much. Morsi's trademark humor and down-home realism are always appealing. I see that two of the best writers in the romance business have added their own praise for this book here at Amazon!

5.0 out of 5 stars Delightfully different 27 Jun 1999
By A Customer
Format:Mass Market Paperback
This was a wonderful book! I would highly recommend it. Particularly to those who are tired of reading romances that all sound the same. The characters were different and interesting, and I actually cared what happened to all of them, not just the main two.

5.0 out of 5 stars ANOTHER TERRIFIC BOOK FROM A GREAT AUTHOR! 26 Jun 1999
By A Customer
Format:Mass Market Paperback
A new Morsi book is always a treat, and I enjoyed SWEETWATER BRIDE so much! I got involved in the story from page one and hated setting it down. (Read it in two days, so I didn't set it down much!) If you love warm, wonderful romance, this book is for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my favorite Pamela Morsi books 20 Jun 1999
By A Customer
Format:Mass Market Paperback
SWEETWOOD BRIDE was a wonderful effort! The dialogue that comes out of the mouths of Pamela Morsi's characters rings with such truth that they can't help but become real to the reader. Everyone in the Tennessee community of Sweetwood was a fully fleshed out human being. It reminded me a little of one of my favorite TV shows of all-time--THE WALTONS. (Oh, and did I forget to mention the delicious love scenes?) This book made me feel like I could sit back, relax, and just enjoy the ride because I was in the hands of a master storyteller.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome American romance 9 May 1999
By A Customer
Format:Mass Market Paperback

His so-called friends and other citizens of Sweetwood force Mosco Collier into marrying Eula Toby after she accused him of leaving her pregnant. The literal shotgun wedding leaves Moss with an acrimonious taste. He knows that he not only did not sleep with the girl, he never committed a crime in his life. Adding to Moss' dilemma is Eulie's five younger siblings who will now move onto the farm he shares with his uncle, a Civil War veteran who lost his legs during the fight.

All Moss can think of is that his dream to raise cattle in Texas ended with the lies of a teenager. Eulie feels bad that she tricked Moss into marriage, but she was desperate to keep her family together since her parents died and Moss seemed so lonely. When Eulie learns of Moss' dream, she offers him a plan that would free him to leave. However, before he can leave, Moss feels he has chores to do so his new family will have a comfortable home when he leaves them behind. Though he insists he's not in love, each day Moss seems to find one more task to complete that binds him to stay a little bit longer.

SWEETWOOD BRIDE is an entertaining historical romance that demonstrates the impact of children on the most recalcitrant hermit. The story line shows how loving relationships can heal most mental scars. The lead protagonists are a graceful duo even though Eulie's Pollyanna outlook can become a bit irritating. The support cast, especially Eulie's brother and Uncle Jephta, add incredible layers to a wonderful Americana romance.
