4.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating and original, 12 Jul 2008
By Simon Clarke (Hackney London) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
The Austrian author is also a child psychiatrist, and this novel
comes in the wake of excellent psychological thrillers by Petra
Hammesfahr and Andrea Maria Schenkel and is further evidence that
writers in the German language are pushing the boundaries of the
psychological thriller.
A young girl is playing ludo with her grandfather ,when he follows
a caller out into the winter's evening. When he does not return, the
girl finds him dead with his head detached from his body. She henceforth
loses her power of speech. The girl is seen by a psychiatrist whilst
the police commence investigations. What follows, however,is not so
much an investigation into a murder, but a chilling enquiry into
the deep and often disturbed psyches of some of the inhabitants
of the small town.An original and fascinating novel.
