This is a beautiful album.
If you have broken, or are breaking out of, the confines of disliking Country music for all the cliches and Pop Country gloom out there, then there are no reasons I can give for not liking this.
I fell for 'The Burrito Brothers' debut 'Gilded Palace of Sin' after a few listens, and after reading that this album tops even that, was skeptical. But, I must say, this has absolute classic perfection written all over it.
The Nashville session Pedal Steel Guitarist, Lloyd Green was given rare freedom to slide around at his own jurisdiction and it bears sweet fruit. A bit like Vassar Clements' violin work with the Bluegrass, Jerry Garcia starring outfit from 1973, 'Old & In The Way'- it doesn't dominate, but blends into the sound seamlessly whilst allowing you to tune in and marvel.
Although Gram Parsons was heavily involved, he isn't out front much, (record company conflicts) but he left his mark here before breaking out with 'The Flying Burrito Brothers'.
This is a short and very sweet album. Maybe 'The Byrds' best.
Please note: This edition comes in packaging intended to reduce carbon emissions and to breakdown quickly if discarded. Hence this version may not be ideal for those who want the liner notes and solid, durable/normal casing.
