If you've never listened to John Prine, he's a kind of cross between Bob Dylan and Merle Haggard. Of course, if you've never listened to Bob Dylan or Merle Haggard, that's not much help. We're in the realms of country music meets folk music meets American singer-songwriter.
This album is an absolute delight. Entertaining and amusing lyrics (if a little difficult to understand at times), great tunes and a real sense of the post-hippie, pre-PC era in the United States. One song is a plea from Prine for his body parts to be put to good use after his death. Another deals with the aftermath of a car crash in which no one was hurt. And if you want a really good late night chill-out session, you can't do better than the moody and evocative 'Christmas in Prison'. Enjoy!

As John Prine trudged around the outskirts of Chicago delivering mail he had all the time in the World to write songs in his head . This album contains , I suspect , the songs still in the bag after the plums had been removed to make John Prine . This album is not so strong but still strong enough to terrify the opposition . It rocks and it is laugh out loud funny . Often Is A Word I Seldom Use and Christmas In Prison are two of the many gems on offer here . The backing is mint and his mate Steve Goodman is an astonishing acoustic guitarist . Buy it and be happy .

I have loved JP most of my life. Every note and word are a treasure. Had this and John Prine for my 18th birthday and they are the longest surviving pressies ever. I have listened to them for nearly 40 years. Time to upgrade to cd.
