This book has beautiful photographs both of Paris, the shops, architecture and the essential patisserie recipes. Some great addresses to visit too. Only problem is the book isn't big enough! Would have liked it to be 3 times as many pages. Would recommend it to any cook who wants to sit down with a coffee for an educational read and refer to book for special occasions and ideas.

This is a truly beautiful book, with evocative pictures of Paris as well as mouthwatering images of the recipes. More than a cookery book it gives the reader an insight of Paris and where to visit for the best pastries and confectionery. The recipes look easy to follow, so far I have made the friands and the rich dark chocolate ice cream - both were a resounding success. I didn't have any raspberries in the fridge for the friands and used preserved wild cherries instead which worked very well. Some other recipes which I will try soon : Chocolate Eclairs, Macarons, Tarte au Citron, Brioche Nanterre.

Sweet Paris by Michael Paul is the first recipe book I have ever sat down and read cover to cover. That is because it it much more than just a recipe book. As well as containing delicious traditional french recipes, it also contains a lot of beautiful photography all sorts of interesting facts. Do you know who the patron saint of pastry chefs is? Or which classic French treat actually comes from Austria? Read Sweet Paris to find out.
The really nice thing about the recipes in this book is that they are time honoured classics, no gimmicks and twists. You won't need to go out and buy a lot of fancy new ingredients; there's not a sprinkle of edible glitter insight.
