Funny, flirty and fab. (Carole Matthews )

A fun read. (SHE )

Product Description

What’s so special about Penny Peacham’s home-made bread pudding – the same old pudding that she’s been serving up to her husband Archie and the rest of the family for ever – that it suddenly seems to be getting everyone all worked up? Could it be that there’s really some secret ingredient in the recipe, something fruity or spicy that works wonders for people’s love lives?
Penny has no idea how the fuss started. Somehow, in the middle of an interview on local radio about the need for a bypass, she mentioned the pudding – and before she knows it, she’s becoming an accidental celebrity!
All this is no help whatsoever to Penny’s daughter Michelle, whose boyfriend Robbie has disappeared mysteriously in the middle of a pub lunch. Michelle’s not really sure how much this bothers her – but if there’s any love-magic in her mum’s famous pudding, she could certainly do with a serving of it herself!

I'd never even heard of Sheila Norton before so wasn't sure what to expect, and was pleasantly surprised. It was a really good read, written from both the daughter and the mother's viewpoints-and was effective and believable as both. I will definitely be looking out for some more by this writer.

Another great read from Sheila Norton. She writes great characters that she brings to life and with warmth and humour. I was only sorry when I came to the last page always the sign of a good book.

Or else it should come with a glossary. The story itself isn't awful, though it gets irritating after a bit with the first-person narrative switching back and forth between Michelle and her mother Penny. But I had no idea it would be filled with incomprehensible Brit slang (what on earth is a snog?). And one word that is constantly used, which seems to have 5 or 6 different meanings, is one we only use as a vulgar substitute for urinate. Not sure half the time what it means in this book. Even the bread pudding recipe at the end is puzzling -- peels? What sort of peels does anyone eat?? I was glad the book was free, because I would be upset if I had actually paid for it.
