Loved the book. Very easy to read and great sense of humour from the author. I've read a few Chinese books, and its clear that Helen Tse can read and write English fluently - she gets her points and emotion across so well. I was totally gripped by the story (which I heard on Midweek with Libby Purves) and just had to go out to buy the book. The quote "If Heaven Made Him, Earth Can Find Some Use For Him" was very meaningful to me. This family has endured a lot of problems - I'm crossing my fingers that this book does well and will once and for all give them the lucky break they deserve.

i am a British Born Chinese, and although i cannot totally relate to this book, i feel it represents all the Chinese immigrants all those years ago!
it has taught me lot of life in China and Hong Kong and the travelling limitations from one place to another. i now know how life was, which my mother and father contantly tells me of,so that i wont take what i have now for granted. it's a fantastic read, well written!
though with a few typos, but you expect this with the first edition!
i would have loved the recipees though!

I was really excited to read this book as I had seen Helen on UKTV Food - she came across as really friendly and and her story was fascinating. The cover immediately appeals - I love the colours and the three women in the corner. I loved the book and could not put it down. The journey of these women was really amazing, gripping in fact and I have to confess that I cried when Lily gave up her daughter for adoption - the pain of doing that is something that I have had to endure and still do. It seems no matter what culture, nationality or part of the world you are from, women's issues and rights are the same universally. It is the best read I have read this year and I have already ordered a copy for my mum, for Mother's Day. I know she will enjoy it.
