Purchased this on the strength of some positive reviews on this site and a recommendation from a much better related product. Huge disappointment. Many arguments that it was good considering it's budget are false, really poorly shot, all unsteady handheld camera without any thought or consideration put into the framing of the shots.
Lazy scriptwriting with poor dialogue and a plot that's unbelievable and full of holes (the girls sold into the sex trade won't go to the cops incase the cops rape and kill them? In Toronto? Really? and then we are introduced to a good cop halfway through the film who puts his life on the line to save these girls and is part of a massive operation with the whole of the Toronto police force. Lazy.) Also the climax is stupid, contrived and doesn't make sense. Reviews of a great performance from the lead actress? Well sort of, it's hard to say when she never talks and just has to look pretty and stab things.
I'm really trying hard to find something, anything, to recommend this film but I can't. It feels lazy, like no ones really put much thought or effort into the story, characters, themes or ideas.
The problem is that it wants to be both a serious drama about illegal sex trade and a B movie revenge and boobs movie. Yet obviously one cancels out the other. Perhaps one positive, is that the film feels grimy, dirty, degrading and unglamorous, whether this it to reflect the grim reality of the sex trade or the result of poor directing is however up for debate. If you're looking for a serious movie on sex trafficking look elsewhere or if you want a B-movie titillating revenge thriller then again look elsewhere.
