Samona Gray, a grade school teacher, is a woman who just doesn't have luck on her side at the moment. She is being profiled by the police because they suspect her; along with her then boyfriend (Roger Benson) robbed a jewelry store 'together'. But the fact is Samona only came along with her boyfriend by his request, having no idea that he would end up robbing the jewelry store. This is a high profile case because a woman was murdered during the robbery and the police want someone behind bars. But they can't get Roger Benson because he supposedly died, so there next best suspect is Samona Gray.
The Chicago police, wanting to put someone behind bars call in Derrick Lawson. He doesn't want to handle this special assignment but he has no choice, since the captain 'tells' him he is now on the case. He was chosen because he looked very similar to Roger Benson. Derrick armed with a new last name and a different occupation moves into the same building as Samona Gray. But her unexpected beauty has him second guessing whether or not she's the criminal type.
This was my second book from Kayla Perrin. I was surprised that I was able to purchase the first printing on this book too, at its original price. I really enjoyed this book. The characters weren't too complex but just ordinary people, especially Samona Gray. I like that she was a school teacher and being followed by the police. At the time that I read this book, school teachers being involved in a crime were few and far between. But the concept and plot for this book still had a freshness to it. Sweet Honesty also had just the right combinations of romance, action and suspense. This book is the type that is fictional but could actually happen in real life and I liked that dynamic. This is a great book to add to your Kayla Perrin book collection.
